Hello,

by the way, I am also disabling "ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support" and enabling "Serial ATA (prod) and Parallel ATA (experimental) drivers"

Before reboot, renaming fstab isnt problem, but what abou LILO :))

boot = /dev/hda >> boot = /dev/sda ???

image = /boot/kernel-2.6.37-ck
root = /dev/hda5 ...

Hi,

I tried to follow this guide, but have problem. Especially, after I say no for CONFIG_IDE in kernel configuration and compiled it, it wasnt possible boot into it (kernel panic):
VFS - cannot open root device "305 or unknown-block(3,5).

I am back in old kernel. Thanks for advice.

Hi, but we, with some older nvidia card, seems to have wait.

nvidia-drivers-173.14.27 doesnt compile against kernel-2.6.36.

BTW: nvidia-drivers-173.14.28 with xorg-server-1.9 support is out for some time

Could this be due to Fair Group Scheduling?
This is new in CFS in 2.6.24.
By default it appears to give users equal CPU share first and then processes within that user's space get partitioned within that.
I'm going to try turning it off and see how it goes.

Thanks for reply, nutbar21.

Without rebuilding nvidia-drivers against new kernel, booting with new kernel will lead only to console, not X. These basic principles I know.

I removed blocks in related ebuilds and everything works great. The only thing I am worrying now, what this means: # grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Ok, now I know it, but is it somewhere mentioned, that there are two config styles and so? I tried only net.example, but there is nothing about iface_eth0.

Not as such, but we only document one style at a time - so if you change from one to the other, changing it all should be a safe bet.

Thanks, you saved me a lot of time of searching. For us, who dont know exactly, what gateway is, its hard to find in net.example, that routes_eth0 is what we need. :D

[Solved] how to set gateway since baselayout-1.12.4-r5

Hi, my setup for internet connection is same for ages - my IP 192.168.50.13, my gateway 192.168.50.1, netmask 255.255.255.0 and broadcast 192.168.50.255.

So for all the time baselayout-1.12 is out (+few prereleases) my /etc/conf.d/net is simply and working(keep in mind, I was using ifconfig all the ...

Its probably due to new feature of portage - see bug IUSE changes should trigger --newuse.

It was discussed here few days ago - see emerge -uDN wants to re-emerge LOTS of existing packages.
