Release date for KDE-3.5.4?

  • Quote

Post by spiralvoice » Mon Jul 31, 2006 8:42 am

Hi,

I saw KDE-3.5.4 already masked in Portage, this release is also tagged
in KDE SVN repos.
I am currently re-installing my Gentoo ~x86 from scratch.
Before I start compiling current KDE-3.5.3 I would like to know
if it makes sense to wait one or two days for KDE-3.5.4 to show up
in order to save compile time (currently working with IceWM).

So, does anyone know when it will be officially released?
http://www.kde.org/announcements/change ... o3_5_4.php

Some people on Suse already seem to have KDE-3.5.4 packages:
http://www.unixboard.de/vb3/showthread.php?t=21450 (in German)
and on Debian unstable: http://packages.qa.debian.org/k/kdelibs.html

I am not sure, but probably nobody here know, when it will be really released. But see my previous post, how long it takes between "tagged and released" for previous version.

And about fact, that some distribution already offer kde-3.5.4 packages ... dont understand it much, but Diego bloged about it few hours ago.

I just checked and found the sources on all main mirrors already.
Good news for everybody.

Everybody who felt so smart trying to cheat, sign here the "no bugs" form please....

For an error in commit, for a while arts used the *old* release tarball, it's fixed now, but of course nobody was supposed to build the wrong one in the first place.

On my part, I will wait until tomorrow to get a new, shiny KDE
on my system, for the time being IceWM is enough for me

since when it is cheating, to unmask masked ebuilds?
please explain.

if you like to fill the gentoo distfiles servers in advance, do it like the KDE doodes fill the mirrors in advance. no need to put the ebuild in portage at all.
am i missing something here?

He was referring probably to people, who used the pre-released tarballs from some "fine" distributions - I don't use KDE, but this übersikrit thing is plain silly, people release rc, betas and even alphas for testing, of course one could build the tarballs all by himself from svn using the tag or extract the tarballs from the sonamed distros.
The problem is probably the close german ties between suse and kde :)

Is arts suppose to be arts-1.5.4.tar.bz2?

Edit: Never mind I found my answer browsing the 3.5.3 stable tree :)

Yep, not on all of them, but ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.5.4/src/ has it all!

EDIT: Downloaded all stuff from there, edited package.mask, all checksums for
tarballs were ok, now compiling.

@flameeyes: Big thanks for your great work and happy holidays!

ah, thanks for the link. I'm downloading too.
(that ftp mirror is slow, avg 10KB/s for 600MB of files. it must be very busy feeding the src :P )

Hi, just realized that I am not able to enter ftp://ftp.kde.org/ with Konqueror. I gives me only window telling

Code: Select all

The process for the ftp://ftp.kde.org protocol died unexpectedly.
Not sure if its 3.5.4 specific, couse I dont remember when I entered this ftp server last time and sucessfully. Other ftp server I tried to enter works without any problem. Am I alone?
