okay, what I did was

Code: Select all

emerge --nodeps -v =dev-lang/python-2.4.4-r5
that way I got a new python, could unmerge the old one and update the rest of the system afterwards.
maybe I will have to revdep-rebuild (didn't check last night), but on the first look everything seems to work ;)

1.3.0.53_API has serious problems, sometimes it consumes all cpu available, sometimes it makes X do so.
maybe it's a problem with certain x11 drivers, I just wanted to warn you about that

Xen and nptl/tls worries ..

Hi!

I set up a new Xen machine yesterday with xen-3.0.1-8885 and the 2.6.16_rc3-r1 sources, using glibc-2.3.5-r2. everything works fine EXEPT for the nptl/tls.

When booting either dom0 or domU, I get the info to remove /lib/tls, which I don't have. I tried to compile glibc without nptl, with "nptl ...

I had the same problem, but it was simple to resolve: remove SCSI support from domU if you don't need it.
the domU tries to access a scsi device (eg root=/dev/sda1) when scsi support is in the kernel. since I never needed it (eg for usb-sticks, etc), I don't know how to solve that case ...

Upgrading an old gcc 2.95 system to 3.4.4 - how?

I found one of my machines is still running on gcc 2.95!! I need to install some new packages, but there seems to be a lot of inconsistency in portage - actually only on this system. Since it would be fine to upgrade to gcc3* anyway, I tried to, but .. failed. no matter which profile I tried, emerge ...

Xen (not) in Portage ..

Hi!

I have several machines with xen 2.0.6/7 running, no problems so far. I wanted to set up a new server today and found some funny things:

1. xen2 is no longer in portage. interesting, as this is the "stable" version. why not? there are multiple versions of eg gentoo-sources, vmware, .. etc.

2 ...

I tried to boot domU with the guest kernel compiled with xen-3.0.0-pre20051122 and it booted without problem.

Are different versions of (xen-patched) kernels going together with those of xen? or how do I find out with one go together?

I installed 3.0.0_pre20051128 with kernel 2.6.12.5-r4 - domUs ...

Everything concerning raid/lvm/dm is compiled into the kernel, no modules. kernel is a 2.6.12.5 with xen patches - since this is a xen-dom0 I cannot use the gentoo-sources or genkernel. I also only want to install a data volume on evms, boot/root are running on raid1 without problems.

you should have "xterm" anywhere in the menu. take this, then you can continue ;)
you may want to emerge fluxconf. run fluxmenu then, edit your menues and add a "run.." entry pointing to "fbrun" in the menu at a point of your choice :)

fluxbox-syntax is just for highlighting in vi, to use fluxbox you have to emerge fluxbox.
