Hi,
I installed xen 3.0.0_pre20051128
following the howto (http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Xen_and_Gentoo). After the first reboot it seems the pc halts after the following messages:

Code: Select all

I connected with a serial cable and edited the grub configuration to

Code: Select all

title Xen 3.0.0 / Linux 2.6.12.5
root (hd0,0)
kernel /xen.gz dom0_mem=128000 com1=9600,8n1
module /kernel-2.6.12.5-xen0 root=/dev/hda2 console=ttyS0 debug
Now I can see the kernel-2.6.12.5-xen0 is booting and everything runs fine, except I see only the first message on my monitor. ctrl+a doesn't seem to work at all. if I try to start xend I receive the following error

Code: Select all

 * Starting Xen control daemon ...
ERROR: Could not obtain handle on privileged command interface (2 = No such file or directory)
Exception starting xend: (2, 'No such file or directory') [ !! ]
questions:
* I'd like to manage dom0 using my monitor instead ttys0. is this possible ?
* is there a gentoo dom0 stage 4 somewhere ?
* can I run my current setup as a domU ?

thanks

giuliano

Sorry, never tried using the serial, but I always used the monitor and keyboard, since dom0 just uses it if it's present.

not quite, at least you have to make a new kernel and changing the Xen-part to use the frontend-backend drivers properly:
for Xen 2.0 : domU:
[ ] Privileged Guest (domain 0)
[ ] Physical device access
[*] Block-device frontend driver
[*] Network-device frontend driver
compared to dom0
[*] Privileged Guest (domain 0)
--- Physical device access
[*] Block-device backend driver
[*] Network-device backend driver
[ ] Block-device frontend driver
[ ] Network-device frontend driver

None that I've found, I'm just reusing a self-designed base-system

Hope that helps :)
