Hi!
I have several machines with xen 2.0.6/7 running, no problems so far. I wanted to set up a new server today and found some funny things:
1. xen2 is no longer in portage. interesting, as this is the "stable" version. why not? there are multiple versions of eg gentoo-sources, vmware, .. etc.
2. xen3 is hard masked, due to security reasons concerning the kernel. I unmasked xen3 but the domU keeps crashing (like 3.0.0_pre...). Well, no need for xen3, but since this is the only version in portage, this might become a problem with my systems.
I have to copy my running systems to set up new ones. Or I can manually mess around in the portage tree keeping xen2 in it. And upgrading anything in a xen environment might lead to problems (eg with python).
I don't understand this kind of package management. Okay xen was never marked "stable" on gentoo, but just removing it seems rather .. strange. especially when you consider that it will eventually be integrated in the kernel soon.
If someone has a working solution I would be grateful to read it. I cannot imagine that I'm the only one having xen+gentoo running on production systems
