Partition table question

I think I know the answer to this, but I want to be sure so I don't lose 80GB of data.

My partition table has 8 partitions in it, and my /home partition is the last one. I want to delete some of the other partitions underneath it, so there will only be about 5 partitions and I will gain some extra space. Will deleting, say, sda3,4,5 screw up anything on sda8? I'm assuming that the numbering will change (it will become whatever is the top number at the end of my list), but I don't think it will ruin my data. But, I just wanted to make sure before I go ahead with it. Thanks!

You can at least delete (and recreate) any primary partitions, that will have no effekt on the logical ones. the numbering within the logical ones will change, so when you delete sda5 your home will be on sda7, but the data on it will be untouched. if you create new partitions using the space of the deleted ones, you get new numbers (eg sda8) then, and usually fdisk will complain that partitions are not in order, but everything should work.
