1) Update your fglrx driver to the lastest one...which isn't the one in the portage tree. The one in the portage tree is not compatiable with AIGLX. But the latest fglrx on the ATI website is(so I read).
The ATI Linux drivers since 8.42.3 have supported AIGLX, which were released back in October ...

Last time I had AIGLX support going for KDE4 I had to downgrade xorg-server back down to 1.3.x. If I remember correctly it was something to do with the ati drivers not recognizing the version in xorg-server 1.4. Not sure if these two are related or not, but might be something to try for you.

I've been reading on quite a few sites that AIGLX is just not functional in the latest driver releases. I've been trying to get Compositing to work in KDE4 since release with absolutely no luck at all. Hopefully will be fixed in next driver release.

EDIT:

I found on the Fedora forums that people ...

Has anyone using fglrx for ATI cards gotten Compositing to work? I read on ATI's website that ever since 8.42.3 their drivers support AIGLX, which is what kde4 uses to do all the pretty stuff but I get an error from kwin at startup saying Compositing is disabled.

[SOLVED] gcc-4.2.2 compiling gcc-3.3.6-r1 problems.

I just recently installed got going under the ~amd64 tree and started using -march=native with gcc-4.2.2 to build everything. This morning I ran into a problem when i went to 'emerge xorg-x11' when it came up to building gcc-3.6.6-r1 for a dependency it complains about not knowing what '-march ...

Keeping certain packages from building during world

I couldn't find anything by searching, most likely from not knowing exactly the right things to search for. But I was wondering if there is a way to keep certain packages from trying to emerge during: emerge -e world like for instance a dependancy for the package quake4-bin is quake4-data, and I ...

I do believe the initial toolchain build does need to be changed to suite 2005.0. As 2005.0 comes with 3.4.3. Just a thought.

All works well, followed m0x's quick guide back on page2, thanks abunch. Only thing I did different was:

Code: Select all

chown m0x /dev/v4l/video0
Just make sure that your user is in the video group and you won't have to do this.

Code: Select all

Thanks again!

Laff, you're histerical. I was just asking a compilation question because someone had stated they got it work, and I'm a nub for it? Good thing I haven't been using Linux since 1993. I may be new to Gentoo, but not Linux in general.
