why do you think that everyone, really everyone, and every document, really every document, tells you that compiling openoffice on amd64 is not possible?

"OpenOffice is currently only available in 32-bit binary form, since OpenOffice 1.1.x will not compile on amd64. To install OpenOffice, emerge the app-office/openoffice-bin package."

Hey dangertools be nice to the newb after all we're not the Debian mailing-lists/forums here. We were all noobs once and helping along this user is just yet another baby step at taking away users from teh 3V1L M$ empire. That's the way I look at it anyhow.

Oh and I doubt that tnt is accurate about running OpenOffice 64

Laff, you're histerical. I was just asking a compilation question because someone had stated they got it work, and I'm a nub for it? Good thing I haven't been using Linux since 1993. I may be new to Gentoo, but not Linux in general.

Please be nice to us n00bs, there has been a flux of anti-n00bism on these forums. As we all know the kindness and helpfulness of the experts here are one of the biggest turn ons to Gentoo Linux.

Now, as far as I know, you cannot compile openoffice on an amd64 bit system running in 64bit mode. Therefore you have to....

Code: Select all

emerge openoffice-bin
Yeah its a bummer, but these new fancy hyperspeedy processors can still get enough quickness out of openoffice.
