Do the following (in the chrooted environment):
rm /etc/profile.env
source /etc/profile
Does it still happen then?
If it does not, then there's something wrong with your /etc/env.d.
If it does, then there's something wrong with your /etc/profile (corrupted perhaps).
Post back what happens. Either ...

I want it to just load up X-server because for some reason my Gnome gets stuck on loading the window manager and just goes to a blank screen. I am wondering what it says on default that loads up the X window system.
You can probably delete or rename the ~/.xinitrc file and then startx. By default ...

Re: Almost a solution

It is possible to make install passing the parameter "ide=nodma" to kernel.
I tried ide=nodma, ide=reverse and noapic options. Neither worked. I think its a bug on the 2005.1 livecd. I just used bored and 2004.3 instead. I *think* this is a bug. I'll probably see if it needs to be reported or ...

4) Keep on topic - If you are replying about something to do with something like iptables, and someone mentions a configuration tool that runs in KDE, don't start talking about KDE, stick to the topic. Go start a new topic and post a link to the old one if there is relevant information there.

I don't like Spatial Browsing. So I changed it from GConf. My only complaint is they didn't leave any OBVIOUS way for it to be changed. When I first emerged gnome-2.6 I didn't even know that it was called Spatial Browsing. It took me a while to realise that, and once I knew what it was, I quickly ...

The free/open source philosophy is to make apps that are modular and reusable that do a specific job well. If you need more functionality then use several apps in conjunction. Not to make one great big app that can do everything.

As to music management I suggest you look at grip/digitaldj. These ...

Maybe you've had different experiences from mine, but when I "just want it to work", I reach for a recent SuSE distribution. :)

Windows is boring.

Which may well be the reason for its success in corporate environments.
Exactly. Sometimes you just want it to work. For example, I ripped 2 CDs from Windows Media Player - it automatically downloaded CDDB data for them, added it to the ID3 tags, named the files, created a new ...
