nano -w /etc/rc.conf

Having problems with the Gentoo Handbook? If you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. All other questions go elsewhere.

MMMKAY,
So I'm at that point in the install, just after I get done building the kernel and I open /etc/rc.conf and start setting things up when I apparently accidentally tapped exit, and the keyboard went to crap, y'know keys doing the wrong things and now I can't use my keyboard correctly thus can't fix the problem or go back and edit it again.

Would LOVE a suggestion.

if this is just a terminal going haywire maybe typeing reset<enter> would help
package JAPH;sub x{$/='$';@1=map{$_=ord;$_--;chr}
split//,<DATA>;@2=map{$_=ord;$_++;chr}split//
,<DATA>;$_=sub{$.++%2?shift@2:shift@1};bless$_;}
1;$x=JAPH->x;for(1..25){print&$x,;}__DATA__

oh and btw, it seems like after pressing a few keys they start doing something DIFFERENT from what they were doing a minute ago, and NONE of them produce any visible characters

why not boot from the cd once again, mount your partitions, chroot and pick up where you left...

OKEY DOKEY, same damn thing.

As soon as I get to:

env-update
source /etc/profile

Its all downhill from there.

Do the following (in the chrooted environment):

Code: Select all

rm /etc/profile.env
source /etc/profile
Does it still happen then?
If it does not, then there's something wrong with your /etc/env.d.
If it does, then there's something wrong with your /etc/profile (corrupted perhaps).
Post back what happens. Either way, there's something wrong, and you probably shouldn't continue with the rest of the installation, until the problem is solved.
I am never wrong. I am simply misinterpreted.
