Try out WindowMaker, EvilWM, Enlightenment (preferably E17), LarsWM, FVWM (it's ridiculously customisable), WM2, Ratpoison or Ion.

My personal favourites are WindowMaker and FVWM.

Also, I bought a Jensen Airlink AL7354, based on the compatibility info at madwifi.org. It uses the Atheros AR5005G chipset and it works absolutely flawlessly using wpa_supplicant and WPA2-PSK with my DD-WRT'ed Linksys WRT54GL.

WPA is a limited implementation of the 802.11i standard (the full implementation is better known as WPA2).

802.11i is designed for use with an authentication server and certificates for automatic key exchange.

WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK is the non-enterprise, "personal edition" with P re- S hared K eys ...

[SOLVED]Rolling picture with ASUS p7131 TV tuner

I've just bought an ASUS p7131 dual/hybrid TV tuner, and although I am getting picture and sound and the various inputs work as they should, there is a slight problem.

When I watch TV and switch to another channel, the picture rolls vertically (I can see the closed captioning and teletext data ...

It's b0rked here as well...

I used subpixel hinting and hinting set to "slight" in KDE before, but after emerging freetype-2.3.3 it messed up my fonts.

I deleted /etc/fonts/*, re-emerged fontconfig and freetype and it still looked like hell.

Right now I have freetype emerged with the bindist ...

Which kernel are you using?

You might want to try the suspend2-sources and http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Software_Suspend_v2.

How fast is your internet connection? Although I don't think it's the problem here, unless cap your upload you can easily wreck your download speed completely. You need some upload bandwidth free for your connection to work properly.

Also, it's a good idea to forward the port(s) that your torrent ...

Since both processors have the same physical id, and the 1 cpu core, I would assume that the processor in question is a 3.0GHz Pentium4 with hyperthreading, either a Northwood-C or a Prescott core.

If that is correct, I would select the Pentium4 option under CPU type in the kernel config, enable ...

I would venture that you should use

Code: Select all

Processor type and features --> Processor family --> Pentium-III/Celeron(Coppermine)/Pentium-III Xeon
800MHz is too fast to be based on the Katmai core, and therefore it is most likely Coppermine-based.

All the locales I need (en_US and da_DK) are in /usr/share/i18n/locales.

My install is roughly 1 week old at this point (reinstallation because my partitions got hosed when I tried to resize them...), so I'm guessing I haven't really missed any updates...

I'll try the LINGUAS stuff, though... I ...

Whoops, I deleted /etc/locales... [Not really, and SOLVED]

The topic says it all... I was going to remove /etc/locales.build, and by accident, I removed /etc/locales instead...

So of course, now locale-gen and so on and so forth ("emerge glibc", for instance) whine about not being able to find the locale files:

I would guess that if the keyboard section in xorg.conf is the same for both Gentoo and CentOS, you should be using the same keymap... Provided of course you haven't used xmodmap (or xkeycaps) to move around anything.

I have a similar problem, but on my machine it only affects Vim in console mode. In GVim, the <alt>-shortcuts work fine, but in console Vim <alt+i> just backs up one character instead of inserting an \item tag.

This fixes the shortcuts so they insert tags in GVim instead of opening menus:

I second that.

Also, the GTA games all have absolutely perfect soundtracks, but I guess that comes from choosing music from the same period as the game's setting.

Well, Linux will run in 12MB of ram. 2.2 will just fine, 2.4 OK and I don't know about 2.6.

The killer is the 120MB HDD, though... You ain't gonna fit much stuff on thar, boy ;)

I think Slackware or even LFS would be a better choice here. 120MB HDD is not even near enough for Gentoo.

I had the idea to take a better look around inside the machine, and what did I find? The 4 bottom-most PCI slots are marked as "Aux. Slots", probably meaning they piggy-back off something else.

I moved the RAID controller to one of the primary PCI slots (this thing's got 7 PCI slots and 2 ...
