I've used KDE, Gnome, and now on XFCE4 and it's nice. Just looking for something that is a bit more different from winders.
Any suggestions?
I suggest you to "ls /usr/portage/x11-wm", then "emerge -pv" them one by one to see the url of their site, and check yourself. No one can choose for you.
Still, there are some interesting pages where you can take a general overview, like these ones:
http://xwinman.org/
http://www.linux.com/articles/37552
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X_window_manager
And of course:
http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&o ... w+managers
Look around, read a bit and see some screenshots.
My option if fvwm, but it might not be suitable for everyone. First, you need to categorize your needs, some simple questions might clarify the matter a bit:
1.- do you want fancy things like true transparency, dancing windows and silly flames burning in your screen while you work?
2.- do you use the keyboard, the mouse, or both usually?
3.- do you mind writing configs files by hand? do you preffer to configure your wm behaviour and look via the mouse?
4.- are you willing to learn new things? in such case: how much time are you willing to invest in that?
The response to these questions will higly influence the kind of wm you should be using.
