in the portage Gentoo have imported from debian - dpkg, debianutils and modconf (for the kernel modules), some of the Gentoo .ebuilds have configure scripts , for example when u do emerge mysql, u have to run ebuild /var/db/pkg/dev-db/mysql.foo*/mysql.foo*.ebuild config to configure it

yes, it is possible, but I suggest u another way, to use one portage tree on all system via NFS

in one of the cases you or probably the doom3.ebuild maintainer is made the mistake, just copy all base.pak (not sure what was the extension of this stupid game) to the Gentoo box

in CD1,2 and 3, u must have DATA/base or /DATA/packs, cant remeber, just copy the files from this folders to your box

u cant install X11 application without Xorg-x11 or the old and unmaintained xfree86, check your paths in /etc/ld.so.conf if u have allready installed X11, and insert the line, where are your X11 libraries

simply remove from the clients with XPSP2 - the microsoft smart firewall, and everything will be fine
