Thanks, this worked. It seems like it all broke when I tried using the updateKDEsvn to update my whole kde svn. I did not have these problems before running that script.

You should run an emerge sync && gensync kde-live.
I have done that many times, doesn't help. I guess something is broken, just don't know what.

I haven't been able to compile some of the packages lately, e.g. amarok fails with the following strange looking error:

* Updating working copy of kde/trunk/extragear/multimedia/amarok recursively
SVN: At revision 465392.
* Updating working copy of kde/trunk/extragear/multimedia/doc

Has anyone figured out yet the OpenGL version problem? I have Radeon M9 and I keep getting this:

OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.2.1)

There's a bug report here: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug ...

A KDE/kdenetwork/kopete/libkopete/ui/widgets.cw
A KDE/kdenetwork/kopete/libkopete/kopeteplugin.desktop

Do not whine here, just use another livecd to install gentoo. If you want someone to blame then go to bugzilla(http://bugs.gentoo.org) and file bugs, I am sure you will complain to the right person then. Maybe you can even provide patches and make Gentoo better.

Sorry, I did not mean to whine. I ...

Re: kdeartwork/plastik compile error

might I suggest you delete the source from your previous install attempts and try again? the patch may be applying again even though it's already there.

delete /var/tmp/portage/kdeartwork.. and try to re-emerge.

the patch is supposed to be 3.3.1 compatible. good luck :)

Well, I guess emerge ...

kdeartwork/plastik compile error

Did someone fix the kdeartwork patch and get it compile? I still couldn't get it to compile, since after patching, plastik.cpp contains two "case KPE_ListViewBranch: {" lines.

It seems that the original author of the patches is now installing kde 3.3.1, so hopefully he will get the patches fixed ...

Does Ati Radeon driver works now fine ?

no, it only contains security fixes.
The problem is with the ati-drivers, not with xorg (correct me if I'm wrong :D)

I don't have ati-drivers, but I get X lockups with 6.8.0 if I play enemy territory or run glxgears. Now I am again back to 6.7.0 and ...

I tried right now to play UT2004 with xcompmgr off and It's running perfectly (nvidia binary driver).
I'm using the ATI DRI drivers of xorg-x11.

Can't really use any of the 6.8 snapshots since playing Enemy Territory always hangs my notebook (with Radeon Mobility 9000) at some point. This never happens with 6.7.

So maybe it is stable on 2D, but not on 3D.

Do a emerge sync and try again. Caleb forgot to add those 3.2.2 patches, but they are now added.

Hack to make artsd work with dmix

I was searching for info about making artsd work with dmix and found out this Alsa wiki page:

On bottom half of the page there is a hack to make artsd work with dmix, but it looks too much a hack for my liking, so I haven't tried it yet. It would ...

2.6.0-test1 works without problems with DRI (at least for radeon 9000 mobility that I have). You don't need to emerge xfree-drm, because 2.6 kernel series itself contains the DRM modules that you need to select when you compile the kernel (it's all under the character devices on kernel config).
