As a start, you could document what value of -march you use, and the version of gcc used to build the files. From this, a sufficiently determined reader can identify which CPUs would be supported by that configuration/version pair. In practice, if you use march=x86_64, it should work on all x86_64 systems. (There might be some weird very early generation or stripped down specialty system that is almost x86_64, but doesn't work with march=x86_64, but if such a thing exists, I doubt its users will show up here.) |

Just to clarify, read this site
https://lemire.me/blog/2018/07/25/it-is-more-complicated-than-i-thought-mtune-march-in-gcc/
-march=cpu-type allows GCC to generate code that may not run at all on processors other than the one indicated.
-march=native allows GCC to generate code that only run at the exact same processor than it was build.
Please recompile gentoostudio with Code: | CFLAGS=" -O2 -pipe" | or Code: | CFLAGS="-march=x86-64 -O2 -pipe" |
Only then are all other users can install gentoostudio. The users may tweak after installation.
Then will no complains come.
Regards

soundrolf,
Case matters.
man gcc: | x86-64
A generic CPU with 64-bit extensions. |
Its a lowercase 'x'. _________________ Regards,

Hello, I am interested in giving gentoo studio a shot on my machine. However, it seems that the certificates for gentoostudio.org have expired and I would prefer to avoid downloading a tarball from somewhere unverifiable. I just wanted to inquire about the status of this, seems like the project is still active.
Thanks!!

|
|
Here are my notes if anyone uses Ardour and has an X32 on how to route audio from Ardour back to the X32 and then back into Ardour with all effects.
RECORDING FROM ARDOUR BACK INTO ARDOUR VIA X32
When you've sent all of your Ardour tracks out to the X32 using each track's output assignment, done your mixing and effects on the X32 and now want to record the whole board back into Ardour, this is how. This will record the entire board - channel compression and EQ and effects busses - to two stereo tracks in Ardour. These can then be mixed down again, if desired, to a single stereo master mix.
On the X32
1. ROUTING page, out 1-16 tab
Set Output 01 to DirOut Ch 01. Set Tap to Post Fader.
Set Output 02 to DirOut Ch 02. Set Tap to Post Fader.
Repeat in similiar fashion for all 16 outs.
2. ROUTING page, ultranet (or p16) tab
Set 01 to DirOut Ch 17. Set Tap to Post Fader.
Set 02 to DirOut Ch 18. Set Tap to Post Fader.
Repeat in similar fashin for all 16 outs.
3. ROUTING page, card out tab
Set Outputs 1-8 to Out 1-8
Set Outputs 9-16 to Out 9-16
Set Outputs 17-24 to P16 1-8
Set Outputs 25-32 to P16 9-16
In Ardour
4. Create a new stereo track. Right click on the track and open the inputs window. Set the inputs accordingly depending on whether each track on the X32 is mono or stereo. Arm for recording and verify by soloing each track in Ardour that every track will be recorded, then record the dry stereo mixdown.
On the X32
5. ROUTING page, out 1-16 tab
Set Output 01 to DirOut Fx 1L
Set Output 02 to DirOut Fx 1R
Set Output 03 to DirOut Fx 2L
Set Output 04 to DirOut Fx 2R
And so on, for however many effects busses you're using for this mix.
No need to change the card out assignment.
In Ardour
6. Create a new stereo track. Right click on the track and open the inputs window. Set the inputs 1L, 2R, 3L, 4R and so on to match the configuration of your effects busses on the X32. Mute the dry stereo mix and arm the new stereo track. This time when you record, you're recording a stereo mix of all the effects from the X32.
Notes:
To control the overall output level from the card using this setup without affecting the mix on the board, assign all of used faders from 1-32 to a DCA. The DCA then controls the overall output level.
To keep the same balance you've heard on the X32, put these two tracks into a group and make sure the faders are synced in the group. Note that if you've used the DCA trick above, you may want to adjust the balance between the dry and effects track in Ardour.
You can assign these two tracks in Ardour to output to an unused pair of channels on the X32 to listen to them without changing any other in/out or routing assignments in either Ardour or on the X32. Or assign the master out to 31/32 on the X32, or whatever is unused. _________________ decibel Linux: https://decibellinux.org

I've been thinking about using/building an installer more "user-friendly" than the prompt-based installer I had in the past. This thread convinced me to ditch the installer idea altogether and return to a "manual install" approach. While my motivation is to bring the power of Gentoo to a wider audience of audio enthusiasts because of its compile options flexibility, I still think it's a good idea not to hide too much of Gentoo's underpinnings from any user. The manual way, especially for a stage4 tarball, is pretty easy, and I plan to bring back an update script if I can find the one I used to use, so I think overall it will be a better experience to avoid the whole installer script thing. _________________ decibel Linux: https://decibellinux.org

Right now you can't. The whole tarball creation process is being revamped because I let it go too long. I'm planning on having it available again in the near future.
So while I'm here, quick update: banging out a bash script to run through all five build stages, as well as adding most of the stuff in the audio overlay. |
Hey! There is still no stage4 on site, and I can't see a banging bash script to substitute it with.. /src/builds is pretty empty (with the two auto installer scripts + efi). Any idea when a new build will be available?
Kind regards |

What a Christmas present! Does the audio guide mentioned on gentoostudio.org still exist somewhere? Not that I need it right now, I am still having fun with my wireless , but sound will be the next big bite and eventually my very personal audio station will exist
