|
|
Well, after reading through this thread I was guessing 16-18 hours for my PIII 1.0 with 384MB ram. Of course I ran into the insufficient /var space problem. I finally changed PORTAGE_TMPDIR and BUILD_PREFIX temporarily for this build and was able to compile. Here's the results:
Code: | genhawk ~ # genlop -i openoffice
* app-office/openoffice
Total builds: 1
Global build time: 14 hours, 49 minutes and 11 seconds.
Info about currently installed ebuild:
* app-office/openoffice-2.0.0
Install date: Fri Oct 28 06:42:21 2005
USE="curl eds java kde zlib xml2 -gnome -gtk -ldap -mozilla -nas"
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium3 -pipe" |

Can I explicitely specify the rsync server? maybe this one is not up-to-date:
Code: | Hostname: deela.cc.fh-lippe.de running Gentoo

Have you tried keywording it in package.keywords? It is currently ~ x86. |

Hm.... I thought even if it's ~x86 it should show up in the list when typing "emerge -s", shouldn't it? But now I tried and it showed up in the list. Thank you!

Try this
Code: |
root@blackknight zeidoo # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -p openoffice-bin
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild U ] app-office/openoffice-bin-2.0.0 [1.1.3]
root@blackknight zeidoo # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -v openoffice-bin
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) app-office/openoffice-bin-2.0.0 to /
>>> Downloading http://distfiles.gentoo.org/distfiles/OOo_2.0.0_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz

No, not with standard emerge -s. However if you use something like eix it will work like that. |

It seems to fail when building with modular X. I have installed gccmakedep manually, but after 3 hrs of compiling if failed trying to find libXau's functions (missing lib dep). |

It won't build on modular xorg yet, because it depends on imake which xorg7 doesn't have anymore
Use the binary. |

You have outdated info - there ARE imake & xmkmf already as modular ebuilds. gccmakedepend can be installed manulally... |

Oh, I compiled openoffice now, thanks for the tip about imake!
Code: | # genlop -t openoffice
* app-office/openoffice
Tue Nov 8 23:44:44 2005 >>> app-office/openoffice-2.0.0
merge time: 8 hours, 43 minutes and 25 seconds.

I must say: nicer icons and splashscreen. Nicer gtk/qt look, it looks more "real" to me then the -bin version, can exactly explain it. And it seems to have a faster cold start (from 36 from the -bin to 18 seconds!), but has a slower warm start (from 6 to 9 seconds).
All in all, interesting, but I don't think I'll do it again. Almost 9 hours is just too much...
Screenshot Writer
Screenshot Calc
Screenshot Impress
Edit:
The 18 seconds cold startup aren't correct after all. After a reboot, it took openoffice just over 40 seconds to fire up. So, if you think you'll get a fast openoffice by compiling it: forget it |

I havent read all the other posts in this thread, but my /var has 3.9gb free and runs out of space.......time to move some partitions around.....or boot single mode and move var to another partition temp and symlink it..... _________________ tSp

Nah, just point PORTAGE_TMPDIR in /etc/make.conf to somewhere where there is space for the duration of the OpenOffice installation. That should do the trick. _________________ Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? |

I kinda-sorta suspect he's on about x86_64 support -- at least I know that's what I am waiting for with 2.0.2.

Sometime that is needed if libXau was merged after libX11... |
