This used to annoy me too, fixed it by going to power management in systemsettings, choose power profiles and uncheck dim display. Seemed a bit silly to have dim display and screen energy saving both kick in after 10 minutes anyway...

Did you run nvidia-xconfig? From your log I don't see X trying to use the nvidia module

On a new install, installing zen-sources-2.6.32_p4 gave errors untill I installed lzma-utils, so I guess zen-sources should depend on lzma-utils?

I submitted a bug report when I first had this issue but the devs marked it as invalid as the elog from kdm tells you consolekit needs to be running.

With windows XP you could do it by using hardware profiles, don't think you can with 7.

The stable nvidia-drivers doesn't build with the ~arch kernel, currently the ~arch nvidia-driver version is 185.18.36-r1, use this.

Struggled with that for awhile myself as all of a sudden that service needed to be running. I even submitted a bug report but it was marked invalid as apparently kdm's elog tells you to have consolekit running.
