VMWare and Windows/Gentoo

Post by qxh » Sun Oct 25, 2009 12:30 am

Hi All

I use Gentoo daily but I would also like to install Windows 7 should I need it. If I install Windows 7 through VMWare Workstation on Gentoo, is there any way to also add the Windows partition to grub and boot directly should I have a prob w/ Gentoo?

For example, if I install Windows to a partition, rather than to an image?

Any help appreciated...

Many thanks
Scott

qxh,

Proabably not. Its one or the other.

You would effectively be changing the hardware that windows will be operating on. It won't like that any more than linux.
VMware provides a whole emulated hardware platform for the guest.

With windows XP you could do it by using hardware profiles, don't think you can with 7.

Problem is not with profiles. Problem is with activation every time you switch.
