Most likely. You will probably have to talk to CoffeeBuzz or nesl247 or watch http://forums.xgl-coffee.org/ to get specifics.

The first release of Beryl is not out yet and won't be into the portage-xgl until the first release is out AFAIK.
Beryl isn't just a name change its a whole new application forked off compiz, I think.

Ruby YARV Ebuilds

I've been wanting to try out YARV (Yet Another Ruby VM) for a while and finally decided to do something about it and create some ebuilds so here they are. I have tested them on my system (~x86) and they seem to be working well, if other people could help out and leave feedback that would be great ...

I'm not exactly sure what the prelink bug is but I can not prelink using nesl247's 2.16.93 binutils. I get bounds errors and segfaults after prelink supposedly works (/sbin/init U)

I've searched through the thread, so I'm sorry if I missed it, but has anyone had any luck with making XGl work on accounts that are non-root? Is there a permissions issue that needs to be fixed, or is it something else?

Im running this as my normal user, what troubles are you having. At a guess ...

Is it just me or is xgl consideribly SLOWER then xorg 7?

I know it's a bad benchmark, but glxgears goes from ~4700 to ~2400 fps. This is on a Geforce 6600 with 256 megs. I always thought 4700 fps was low, but with xgl, it's even worse.

I'm also not getting any of those cool effects. Do I need to ...

Re: 3 annoying things

Got Xgl up&running 3 days ago without much problem, I guess I'm lucky.
but...

1. Doesn't work well with NVidia's FSAA, especially on mplayer
2. gnome-terminal works around 50% of the time, but xterm just works without any problem
3. can't logout normally, have to ctrl+alt+backspace, then "pkill -u ...

I'm getting great results. I don't use DE's like Gnome but I have been testing with just compiz and urxvt and everything seems to work.
Check the end of the other thread (XGL Part 2) for fixes for the undefined symbol.

I am on a 6600GT and my glxgears went from 6000 to around 10000.

Not wanting to go through 30 pages of other posts but has anyone got XGL to work with Openbox. Everything starts up but one seems to cancel out the other.

EDIT: Otherwise I love it. Everyone seems to dislike Wobbly Windows but I think it is very entertaining especially when you can control it :D

To fix the libGL message do

Code: Select all

eselect opengl set xorg-x11
prelink -avmR
eselect opengl set ati
env-update
source /etc/profile
Are there other errors that could warrant the "Aborted" message?

Compaq Armada M700 Questions

Well, first time installing Gentoo on a laptop, and it's been going fairly well. I do, however, have a couple problems that I can not fix. One is Xorg (well, like 3, but whos counting). First off, Xorg (6.8.2-r6) takes up 20% almost constantly meaning that cpufreqd can't really work and stuff is ...

steve_d555,

actually it isn't GRUB who's very sensitive to USB disks, it's your BIOS and kernel! The kernel creates for an USB disk a /dev/sdX device. If you also have SATA disks, which also get /dev/sdX devices, by taking the USB disks, you might be altering the disks partitions. The BIOS also ...
