wireshark crasches[SOLVED]

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

wireshark crasches[SOLVED]

It starts up fine, unusually quick but ok!
But when I try a menu command e.g. Options I get this:

Code: Select all

>wireshark
The program 'wireshark' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 2870 error_code 3 request_code 3 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I've been using it for years but never experienced anything like this.
By the way - this new version was about making it safer -or am I wrong?

I got this error too. I can't be certain, but try adding yourself to the wireshark group. I think thats what worked for me.

Ok, I did that immediately after emerging it. But perhaps I did it wrong? I just edited the /etc/groups-file but that's not enough?

Not sure about the issue, however, when changing the /etc/group file, the user has to relog in order for it to take effect.

You're much right sir!
At least when tried later after rebooting, It might also have worked as you said but I didn't test that.

Thanks to you all. :D
