Same issue here, I've never seen this sort of message before.
So far I've been forced to skip the compilation of Boost with

emerge --resume --skipfirst

After the rest of the packages finishes, I'll try to work it out.

On your own LDAP server (is it slapd?), have you tried raising the log level and look at the queries and responses from the server?

At my company I have the logging level set high for production usage (it's not heavily used and can thus easily cope with the extra load) and this really helps me ...

Danish keyboard layout and QT applications

I'm having issues with getting QT applications to properly accept the input of my Danish keyboard when the rest of the system is
properly set up to accept UTF8 characters and using "LANG=en_DK.utf8".

Instead of getting the special characters of "æ" "ø" and "å" when pressing the keys, they seem to ...

This is somewhere between a howto and a small intro to LDAP

http://times.usefulinc.com/2005/09/25-ldap

I found it quite useful for installing LDAP/Samba on Ubuntu.

http://www.ldapman.org/ (the articles section) and Wikipedia's entry has also provided me with some good info.

It's been a while since I configured it, but I think that switching between these resulted in what you need:

Option "MonitorLayout" "NONE, AUTO"
#Option "MonitorLayout" "AUTO, NONE"

Also, you could look at the output of aticonfig --help, it might give some clues.

Hmm, nothing springs into my eyes there. Try pasting some of last few entries of /var/log/emerge.log to see what you've been messing with last. A wild guess could be that this is related with either bash or libc (try reemerging libc then bash)

Another guess: Could this be related to a kernel ...

If you're running KDE, dbus and hal is what you need. Take a look at http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_D-BUS%2C_H ... DE_media:/

As for gnome, I believe a search on gnome-volume-manager would provide some insight.

Is this behaviour the same for a console login outside of X, or perhaps an alternative terminal emulator, such as xterm/gnome-term/whatever ?

As you're probably using BASH, could you paste your ~/.bashrc /etc/bashrc and relevant files?
