KAddressbook LDAP search results always empty [SOLVED]

Hi.

I've tried to configure Kontact Address Book (in KDE 3.5.9) for searching through LDAP but I always get no results, be it a search through Active Directory, Lotus Domino or a custom LDAP server that I've setup myself. BTW I've seen from my custom LDAP server that Kontact Address Book always uses the same search criterion. How can I tune or change it?

Code: Select all

Jun 12 16:42:51 ldap slapd[4257]: conn=3 op=2 SRCH base="dc=install,dc=local" scope=2 deref=0 filter="(&(|(objectClass=person)(objectClass=groupOfNames)(mail=*))(|(cn=*)(sn=*)))"
Jun 12 16:42:51 ldap slapd[4257]: conn=3 op=2 SRCH attr=postalAddress mail postalCode description department pager cn uid facsimileTelephoneNumber homePhone telephoneNumber o co street Company title mobile l st objectClass
Thanks for any hint/suggestion.

On your own LDAP server (is it slapd?), have you tried raising the log level and look at the queries and responses from the server?

At my company I have the logging level set high for production usage (it's not heavily used and can thus easily cope with the extra load) and this really helps me debugging when something goes amiss, be it invalid passwords, expired accounts, etc.

You were right -- BTW I'm using SLAPD on my custom LDAP server. I've changed my user name and password in KAddressbook to include the "realm" name, like "user@company.local" and it worked. Before that I was using only my SAM account name (i.e. only the user part of the complete logon name) and I was getting no results. I also added the Organizational Unit as a base for the search.

Thanks for your lights :) .

EDIT: I also tried searching Active Directory with ldapsearch. Here's the syntax I used:

Code: Select all

ldapearch -x -W -D "login@realm" -h dc.domain.local -b "DC=domain,DC=local" "(&(sAMAccountName=login))"
