[Solved] Upgrade - keyboard short cuts not good

Today I upgraded some parts of my system (latest kernel, base layout and xkeyboard-config seem to be the likely cuprits). After restarting I now find that if I right click on my mouse I lock up - the mouse pointer moves, but keyboard commands don't work and I can't click on windows. I can't find any hints as to what might cause this (there were a lot of config files to be updated and I accepted those).

I also notice things like ctrl-c, ctrl-v no longer work as well. I did not change my xorg config file.

Any ideas?

Edit

Found this in the xorg.log file:

A similar issue with the AltGr combinations not working (and special characters). Just posting for others to quickly find it.
