I find that alot of mp3 software, (players managers etc) try to hard to abstract the concept that mp3's are just files on your HD, they categorize them to no end and invariably mess it up...

Agreed! I find it really frustrating that there only a few media players out there that aren't going on ...

Don't compile DRM support into the kernel and try again - Also, make sure you have you have the lines:

Load "glx" # libglx.a
Load "dri" # libdri.a

At the top of your XF86Config. (located at /etc/X11/XF86Config or /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 - the latter takes precedence if both exist).

Last time I synced, these ebuilds have been updated:
arts
kdelibs
kdebase
kdenetwork
kdepim
kdeutils

These ones haven't:
kde
kde-i18n
kdeaccessibility
kdeaddons
kdeadmin
kdeartwork
kdebindings
kdeedu
kdegames
kdegraphics
kdemultimedia
kdesdk
kdetoys

Obviously the 'kde' ebuild can't be updated ...

Using kdebase/libs 3.2.2 now - I was right, the dragndrop bug is fixed and not present in the Change log, and that was a pretty critical bug imo, so try it and see if your 'favourite' bug is fixed. Not noticed any show-stoppers yet, but only been in for 5 minutes :p

I'd wait a couple of days so that the kde 3.2.2 are confirmed to work ok, then 'ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~x86 emerge -vp kde' - That'll show what packages would be merged, check that the output's ok, then remove the '-vp'. However, I suggest you stick with using stable packages til you get used to Gentoo ...

I think there are possibly undocumented fixes, perhaps they weren't considered big enough to merit the Changelog... But for example, the broken drag/drop support in KHTML in 3.2.1 I think may be fixed (haven't finished compiling kdebase yet, so not sure) - that was fixed when I installed 3.2.1 and ...

Dodgy arts 1.2.2 ebuild fix

In /usr/portage/kde-base/arts/arts-1.2.2.ebuild,

change:

SRC_URI="mirror://kde/stable/${PV/1.2.1/3.2.2}/
src/${PN}-${PV}.tar.bz2"

to:

SRC_URI="mirror://kde/stable/${PV/1.2.2/3.2.2}/
src/${PN}-${PV}.tar.bz2"

That fixed it for me and judging from the ebuild for the previous version, that ...

I have this same problem with drivers 3.2.8, 3.7.0 and 3.7.6 (I've not tried any other ati binary drivers). I have an ATi M9 with 64 megs, same as the first person who posted. Using the XFree86 or DRI drivers, I have no problems with xinerama. Also, oddly, if I use dual-head or wide desktop, I have ...

ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 xv glitches (PLEASE HELP!)

Does anyone have xv acceleration working with the Mobility Radeon 9000 without any glitches? If so, can you post the relevant parts of XF86Config-4 and your system specs?
I'm completely at the end of my tether with these drivers.. I can just about tolerate that they will occassionally completely ...

Wine and CD audio

I don't really know where to start with this, other than to say that CD audio just doesn't work for me in Wine. Is there anything I need to enable to get this working? I'm using the arts driver as neither the oss or alsa drivers produce sound for me and I'm using the 20040213 snapshot of wine. Alsa ...

Sound support should be enabled as a module in the kernel (do *not* put it in /etc/modules.autoload) and don't compile the driver for the sound-chip in the kernel.
Once the kernel is finished compiling and installed, emerge alsa-driver, making sure you have the line 'ALSA_CARDS="intel8x0"' in your ...

I take it back completely, all my problems have come back regardless of the fb driver... If I ever find out what's causing them though, I'll post it (or if anyone knows or has any clues, please say...)

Radeon / framebuffer conflicts

Just thought I'd share my experience with some conflicts I had with the binary ATi drivers and framebuffer consoles... To summarise - Do not use the radeon framebuffer driver and the binary ATi drivers. Using the combination of the both results in conflicts during and after using overlay surfaces or ...
