2.4.21 kernel and SiS 7012 Soundcard Problem

Hello I just updated from 2.4.20 to 2.4.21 and I can't get my sound to work.
When I was choosing options for 2.4.21 I included Sound Card Support and support for SiS 7012 Soundcard, but I can't get my sound to work.
Selecting the above options for other kernels (2.4.22, 2.4.24) got my sound to work.
However I can't use them because of my modem drivers, but this another story...
I'm using KDE 3.1.3 with arts(which came with it I think)
Can you plz help me to get my sound working

I suppose you're using the ALSA sound system and not OSS right?

In that case you should follow a different route and not enable any drivers in the kernel. Just follow the ALSA guide http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml and everything will work OK.

I don't think I'm using alsa...
I can't find it with "ps -aux|grep -i alsa"
also "emerge -s alsa" shows that alsa is not installed

How did you compile the kernel? With "genkernel" or the manual way?

manual.
I tried to use the exact same sound configuration from 2.4.22(also manual but sound works) but it didn't work

OK I need more information. Please list the contents of the kernel configuration file (it's a long one but you can paste it into your reply). It is the file /usr/src/linux/.config.

Sound support should be enabled as a module in the kernel (do *not* put it in /etc/modules.autoload) and don't compile the driver for the sound-chip in the kernel.
Once the kernel is finished compiling and installed, emerge alsa-driver, making sure you have the line 'ALSA_CARDS="intel8x0"' in your /etc/make.conf. Alternatively, you can type 'ALSA_CARDS="intel8x0" emerge alsa-driver'.
Then emerge alsa-utils, and possible alsa-oss (I don't think you need this last one though). Then add alsasound to the boot run level (rc-update add alsasound boot).
There may be some other files you need to edit along the way, read the messages at the end of the emerge's, they tell you what to do...

I have the same sound chip as you, this worked for me.
