ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 xv glitches (PLEASE HELP!)

Kernel not recognizing your hardware? Problems with power management or PCMCIA? What hardware is compatible with Gentoo? See here. (Only for kernels supported by Gentoo.)

ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 xv glitches (PLEASE HELP!)

Does anyone have xv acceleration working with the Mobility Radeon 9000 without any glitches? If so, can you post the relevant parts of XF86Config-4 and your system specs?
I'm completely at the end of my tether with these drivers.. I can just about tolerate that they will occassionally completely corrupt my screen when switching back to X from a VT, but I cannot tolerate the glitchy xv acceleration. When I play any video in xine/mplayer using xv, I get odd corruption in some of the components of my windows (title-bar and scroll-bars mostly - in kde 3.2) and I also get the odd (but very bright, large and noticeable) flicker during playback - full-screen or not. Disabling fglrx altogether fixes *all* problems (but obviously isn't a solution as it also disables all acceleration), disabling xv fixes the video glitching, but also leaves me with no de-interlacing in xine due to every driver but xv being pretty terrible (which is unacceptable).
I've tried using the latest CVS DRI drivers - They're very good, fix ALL my problems, but their performance in recent games (namely ut2004) isn't good enough and is quite glitchy. Using those drivers, all the textures used in the menus in ut2004 look like they've been scaled to a much lower resolution (a la 3dfx), and during game, all model objects are full-bright (no lighting), the red/blue beams coming off things are static (they should be animated) and the performance is terrible.

If anyone can provide me with tips for either getting decent performance out of the DRI drivers (the preferable solution imo), or getting the xv acceleration in the ATi drivers to be less buggy, I'd *very* much appreciate it.

My system specs:
-P4 2.66ghz (no HT)
-kernel gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.3-r1 (I also have these problems under gentoo-sources 2.4.22-r7)
-512 megs RAM
-SiS 945 motherboard (agp supported in kernel, I have these problems with and without kernel agpgart)
-ATi Mobility Radeon 9000 64meg

I've applied the mtrr fix also, which seemed to help stability, but didn't fix any glitches. I've tried the 3.7.0 drivers, none of these glitches are fixed and game performance with them is terrible. (currently using 3.2.8-r1)
