Unmerging glib-networking solved the problem and now everything seems to be functional. I'll put a SOLVED after I confirm that everything (or at least what doesn't depend on glib-networking) works properly.

I'm having this problem too, which has made my machine half-paralyzed ... I had some problem in Gnome and i compiled KDE just to have a quick alternative and i saw it.

My topic is http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-876733.html and it seems that polkit is the issue but I'm not that sure yet.

after the last update my gnome is unusable : It needs much more time to boot, various programs don't launch at all with no error message (for example gnome-terminal, firefox, and some others), and the shutdown menu is missing.

after issuing the following commands it worked for me ...

Both, eclipse and netbeans are ready to emerge

I have a fresh gentoo installation, and when I try to emerge eclipse or netbeans I run to the following errors

netbeans:

# emerge -av netbeans

I had the same issue in .901 and .902 xorg-servers, and I was messing around with it for about a day. As it seems the gnome-keyboard-properties doesn't do much for keyboard layouts. Altouth tweaking the /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf like TequilaTR said does the job:

Downgrading to ssh 5.5_p1-r2 solved the problem so I guess it's an ssh problem.

I don't get the root problem though. I can connect as a root and any other user without problems.

In nautilus i get the error mentioned in the topic. The .254 host in my local lan and i'm trying to connect from my .2 pc. I tried different addresses known to work but i get the same error : "Error: Error reading from unix: Input/output error
Please select another viewer and try again."

Indeed, there's no such file in /usr/lib32.

I created a symbolic link to the /usr/lib/libXss.so.1 just to see what happens and i get - the obvious i guess :

$ skype
./skype: error while loading shared libraries: libXss.so.1: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

Hm, what happend ? The 32bit version of ...

Skype produces the following error :

./skype: error while loading shared libraries: libXss.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Although the library appears in both /usr/lib and /usr/lib64

$ls -l /usr/lib64/libXss*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1052 Apr 10 18:10 /usr ...

Problem solved after various installs and tests. I guess it had to do with the localization settings.

Hello i can't use the greek tonic system in lyx. When i type ; and the letter nothing happens. It's obviously some problem with the fonts but i can't figure what. I tried everything with no results. The problem is that i can type anywhere σπίτι but in lyx i can only type σπιτι.
