I'm trying on IRC for an answer too... Just going through this guide, but I'm a bit stuck as to how I should emerge gcc-4.3.* before bootstrapping without the gcc overlay.
Thanks.

Decided to try irqbalance but it seems to only work in --oneshot fashion. It starts and then stops, no error messages are provided. Anyone else seeing this?

EDIT UPDATE: looks like it's because I don't have more than one socket - it's a dual-core system - irqbalance not desirable.

Sorry if I'm ...

I wouldn't say winamp is an amazing player.
So IMO you should spend a while learning one of the players on linux, there's a lot of choice.
Otherwise if you absolutely have to use winamp, windows is probably your best choice, media players under wine generally don't perform as you'd like them to.

Umm, I can't find the options for ext4 or reiser4 with this kernel, can someone point me to where I could find them?
Thanks

Edit: Oops, the options are a bit different than the last kernel I was using... found it now.

Downgrading gtk+ to version 2.10.14 did it for me, I also suggest to mask all >=x11-libs/gtk+-2.12.0 ebuild until this is reported a resolved matter.

Best regards
--rock

Thanks, I'll revert the other thing's I've been trying and confirm if it works here too.

Update: Yes, that's fixed it for me ...

Weird, changing the theme has fixed it for me too. I like Aurora though... And the problem must not be with the gtk-qt-pixmap engine, since I don't have that installed.

Edit: I shouldn't say that fixed it, it must be a bug with thunderbird/firefox or a function the theme's are using

Another "me too". Though it's only happened a couple of times with firefox, I'm getting the same errors with thunderbird, whenever I try to write an email.
I'm recompiling glibc at the moment.

Edit: that didn't help, though sometimes I get a segfault instead now.

You DON'T NEED any special CD to create ext4 filesystem - just create ext3 from any of gentoo livecds and than mount it as ext4 - from the first written data - it will be ext4 filesystem - you cannot useit any more as ext3

Essentially I'm agreeing with AidanJT. Yes you can just create an ext3 ...

That's because your default mirror is ALWAYS used first. That's by design.

The problem isn't paludis (portage would have the same problem btw); the problem is that you have a borked default mirror.

The only difference is that portage will try to redownload the file and not simply fail, but in the ...

I'm pretty sure it would've worked perfectly. Even if you were currently running a bash shell and uninstalled bash your currently running shell would run fine (though if you ran any scripts that had "#!/bin/bash" they'd obviously fail).

Thanks for the suggestions, yeah, that was the problem I ...

Hmm, don't think that would have worked, because I made a mistake.
eix reported both bash-3.2_p17-r1 and bash-3.2_p25 as being installed, so without thinking too much I unmerged bash-3.2_p25... no more bash

So I got bash and sh from the stage3 tarball to get enough functionality to rebuild bash ...

I'll try to svn the 1.39-r3 version of e2fsprogs, maybe that will resolve it now if only my ISP would cooperate but thats another thread entirely

Looking in /etc/portage/package.mask/conrad releases after 1.39-r1 have been masked because ext4dev support was removed in r2. I'm not sure if it was ...

Have you got UDF support in your kernel?

Code: Select all

File systems --->
  CD-ROM/DVD Filesystems --->
    <*> UDF file system support

Apparently, -freorder-blocks-and-partition causes system package dev-libs/gmp-4.2.1-r1 to fail.

Thanks, I was just running into problems with this, installing a new system with -march=pentium4, which must cause a conflict with something.
On this computer (-march=prescott) it builds fine with ...
