The newest drivers available on ATI's website now support the x1k cards. Released this morning so if you've been waiting, your wait is over.

Well, I didn't actually delete any of that stuff, just moved it to a backup folder in my home directory so no big deal.

Interestingly enough, this whole fiasco is the end result of me almost NEVER running emerge to update anything. So yeah, the next time I ran emerge -u portage it worked and now I ...

Remove everything but those two directories in /usr/portage?

Then do what? After that emerge -u portage says:

!!! ARCH is not set... Are you missing the /etc/make.profile symlink?
!!! Is the symlink correct? Is your portage tree complete?

So anyway, tried emerge --sync again and it seems to have ...

You mean like how?

emerge -u portage

gives me the same error. Everything involving emerge gives me that error now.

emerge sync killed portage

Just like the title says.
When it got to the part at the end where it says its updating the portage cache, it seems to get anywhere from 80-95% done then i get:

!!! Cannot resolve a virtual package name to an ebuild.
!!! This is a bug, please report it. (virtual/libintl-0)

What the heck do I do ...

Accessing files.

So, I have a ton of music files on my windows partition.
When i go to add files to a playlist in xmms I can access these as root, but not as a normal user.
If I click the /windows folder as any other user it shows as empty when I open it.

???

tried chmod a=r /windows
Any ideas?

Geez, I guess it was time for a stupid mistake.

Yeah, I did remove support for the old nic from the kernel.

Know of any good documents on sharing a connection with a second nic? Can it be done with an ifconfig command?

Where's eth1?

Umm, well lspci shows both nics, but ifconfig says device not found for eth1, eth0 set up fine.

This is strange because eth0 is my NEW nic.

Compile kernel on faster computer... need help.

Ok I'm ok with doing this for the most part except, what exactly to I need to transfer from one computer to the other after I'm done?

I know I'll need to take arch/i386/boot/bzImage, what else?

And when I do this do I just run make_modules rather than make_modules install?

Sound good so far?

MMMKAY,
So I'm at that point in the install, just after I get done building the kernel and I open /etc/rc.conf and start setting things up when I apparently accidentally tapped exit, and the keyboard went to crap, y'know keys doing the wrong things and now I can't use my keyboard correctly thus can ...

No. Thats why I was having problems. Couldn't ping it because it won't reply to any mac address other than the one initially used when it was set up. Same with dhcp, it will only respond to the correct nic. You can call them to have them register your new mac addr., but that's only if you get ...

OKAY, so anyway the problem ended up being that my isp uses a mac address verification. So end of story I had to spoof the mac address to get the damn thing to work.

OK This is REALLY pissing me off.

So, the driver for my old Intel ISA card is "eexpress". I can get that far, but I have the same problem after that. Dhcpcd soes nothing, nor can i ping my modem. How freakin stupid is this?

I was actually trying to finish the install without the network and worry about it later but the cd won't eject to allow me to use the packages cd.
