COD4 stopped working

So around the time that wine-0.9.54 came out I lost COD4 on both my desktop
and laptop. In order for it to work you have to compile wine with the
3dmark patch, so I was using the git, but when that didn't work(after0.9.54) I tried
52 and 54 tarballs. Thing is I know it worked with the 52 git and ...

ok the restart didn't fix it, but I had the bright idea to check bug.gentoo.org and guess what I found(sorry, I'm going on a huge lack of sleep): http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=202922

long story short, it was my version of xerces-c (2.8.0 isn't supported by xalan-c yet) so I just reverted ...

the thing about it is, there are so many linux distros out there now that "just work" that it's getting harder and harder to defend "mom and pop" from it. Why do you think Dell and such are starting to put it on their systems? they see it the same as us, It's coming and not even the barrels of money ...

[SOLVED] xalan-c and thus Virtual Box fail to emerge

I have to do an assignment before 12 EST today, but I haven't been able to for the past few days because my Virtual Box installation got foobared some how. I tried revdep-build and it failed on xalan-c (which seems to be the lib that broke, thus breaking Vbox). so here is what I get:
../../../bin ...

I'm sorry, but how exactly was this resolved for you guys? I've tried everything I can think of (emerge --sync, rm distfiles, rm the ebuilds and emerge --syncing them again) and nothing has resolved this for me, and I have a project due tomorrow, so it's kinda a rush ^^;

thank you in advance

no luck for me. I never had zuttoo-bin installed. I've everything said here(re-emerging,playing with uses, etc.). And I actually have Blender-2.44 installed, but it will not load movies, and when you are trying to use it for sequencing that doesn't work =P so now i'm stuck with this:
Install file ...

I actually found that by using a more recent version of busybox solved my problem.

FEATURES="keepwork" emerge busybox

which kept the source code in /var/tmp/portage/sys-apps/busybox-1.4.1-r2/work/busybox-1.4.1. I used that to create the .tar.bz2 file package which genkernel uses.

cd /tmp
cp ...

Is there any kind of timeline someone can give out for 2.43 to be out in portage?
I uploaded the files here: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167694
due to the nature of this probably the only why an ebuild will make it into the portage tree is if it uses the binaries... at least for now. I ...

I have the ebuild made, but I don't know exactly where to put the user-def.mk file. I'll be happy to upload my ebuild to http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167694 when it's stable enough to use.

Blender 2.43 install

as seen in this bug there is no official ebuild for blender 2.43, but if you cp the 2.42-r1 ebuild and build it with USE="-iconv" it will compile, but then you get the message when you type to run it that it can't save files correctly and wont let you open the program any further. anyone good with ...

The lack of extra crap will help, but it'll be up to you to streamline it... http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Lightning_fast_install_from_LiveCD that will help, VERY fast install, but I've never tried it so I can't vouch... NOTE: you will probably want to twick the make.conf etc. after that and do a ...

if you have a x86(or have x86 installed) you can hook up the harddrive and install to it as if you were in a livecd. if you aren't using x86 but have a amd64 you could rig a chroot and install it from there or boot up a x86 livecd ... and come to think of it you should be to the chroot step before ...

The problem seems to be related to the -finline-functions C/CXXFLAG (which is included if you use -O3 or Os) so you can change that for the compilation of the wine test(where it is failing) with the patch from above or I'm going to try this: I've added extra-swap 1Gb, (before had only 512Mb) , and ...
