Any reason I'm getting this?

The game launches but I have no sound. I did follow instructions to the letter and applied the patch. Running Gentoo w/Geforce-3. Visually game looks fine but it crashes after a few seconds.

If you start it with the command you used you have to be in the Doom3 directory. Running it with the command 'doom3' eliminates that issue. Also, if you are not doing so, make sure you run it as root or the config files wont be written to.

Tried both - same. I didn't try the Loki installer, though. I just copied files over manually. Maybe I'll try the installer. If not, I'll just wait for native binaries.

The nvidia specific opengl libs aren't right, most likly from a change in the location.

Give that a try and see if it works. if it doesn, I'll add that to the howto.

There are a few typos in the howto... if you look a few posts up when you use the patch command use a < (less than sign) rather than the howtos' > (greater than sign) although i believe it is corrected in the howto now.

The winex startup script expects to find a bunch of files in a .transgaming directory under the winex install prefix. It uses these to set up a $HOME/.transgaming directory that simulates a Windows C: drive for winex. However the .transgaming stuff is not included with winex-cvs.

Someone mentioned earlier that you can run regular wine first, which will create a $HOME/.wine directory, then rename or copy the files from there to $HOME/.transgaming. I tried that with the 17jul2004 edition of wine, and winex still wasn't happy. For example it didn't like the config file format, one of them calls it "c_drive" while the other uses "drive_c", and lots of other little things.

If you've got $15 lying around you could buy a Transgaming subscription then download and run Cedega -- that will create a $HOME/.transgaming directory that winex will accept. It still might not make Doom3 work though :)

My own status: with regular wine the patched Doom3.exe runs smoothly but has no sound, the flashlight graphics problem mentioned elsewhere, and static on most of the monitors. Current Cedega and patched winex CVS from yesterday both crash immediately with unhandled exceptions, but someone suggested that using the installer (rather than just copying the files from the CDs) might fix it, so I plan to try that next.
