these are messages i get after initlevel 3 or something like that

what do these messages tell me? which processes do i need to start at bootup? how do i remove the ones i do not need?
all i need is eth0 and sound to start when i start my computer.
also, it takes about 15-20 seconds to get pass the message reading "Calculating module dependencies"

i'm running celeron 600, sound blaster live, 300mb ram
with kernel 2.6.7-gentoo-r11
please help me, it just too annoying to keep looking at screen loading stuff i do not need.
