My computer make is as follows.

Mine is K400 of the two.

And of video card ,I dont know exatly.I ahve the VIA chipset.I went through the entire manual of the mobo but i couldnt find it......
moreover.........I have a wroking suse on my comp ...

btw,I have a working XF86Config file of the other distro(suse) installed on my comp.Will just copying that into this locaiton be ok/??or would that be buggy??

well,i tried that option........but the following step baffles me.....
its asking me the memory of my video card.....I dont have any seperate video card.....whatever I have(if there is something at all) is inbuilt into my MSI K400 motherboard and I couldnt get any details of it anywhere

GUI fails to come up

I am using XFree 4.3.0,as distributed inthe gentoo mirrors.The following commands had the attached results

lsmod

eth0 recognition problem

When I type
#ifconfig eth0
I get an error,saying no such device........
I use a Real Tek ethernet lan card..and I beleive i compiled the kernel for it * i mean genkernel did it),as I see a via-rhine.ko in the list of modules.....

Can some one please explain how i can get back my lan card detecetd?I ...

Actually the error is because ther is no such directory as /lib/modules/2.6.4.52.........
There is only one directory in that location and thats 2.6.9.......
so,I made a soft link for the same.........
Then ,I stopped getting that error...
Then (after I changed only) depmod -a went fine.
But ...

I have the following.........

/lib/modules/2.6.4-52-default/kernel/drivers/net/via-rhine.ko: /lib/modules/2.6.4-52-default/kernel/drivers/net/mii.ko

So,I think the problem lies somewhere else....

The required module was already selected.Anyhow I repeated the steps.
When i modprobe,i get this error...........

Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.4.52-default/modules.dep : NO such file or directory

I get the same erro even while booting the system.............
So,whats the problem.??

/dev/hda4 /boot ext3 defaults 1 2

Dont i need to mount the gentoo partition i.e. hda1??

kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.9 ro root=/dev/hda1
initrd /initrd-2.6.9
You need the kernel image.

This is what I had before installing gentoo
Suse Professional on hda4 .I had my /boot on the root partition itself,no

seperate /boot partition existed.

I dont think the problem is with the network because
#scripts/bootstrap.sh
worked fine and is presently downloading the linux headers...........
So,do I get any trouble later because I omitted that step??

Are you behind a firewall that is blocking the rsync port? I get a similar message at work and have to use emerge-webrsync.

I dont think so,because many of my friends use gentoo.......btw,how do we check whether the rsync port is blocked or not? which port does it correspond?(then,i may use nmap ...

Now,after you said,i added the same .
i tried both the following formats

http://xxx:3328 and http://username:passwd@xxx:3328

both failed with the same error

What else could be the problem>????
