Issue with Livegui USB 8-25-2024 version --- solved

I have been doing a reinstall recently using the livegui USB. I first downloaded a version with a previous date and used it successfully.

However, I ended up needing to do it again. This time it was the 8-25-2024 version. This version fails to load the kde environment. Instead. I just get a ...

Since I was unable to find fw updates that addressed the problem, I modified the kernel with a quirk.

Bear in mind that my experience with patches is limited, here is what I have.

[Solved]Nvme error: Duplicate cntlid 0 with nvme0, rejecting

I have a new laptop: Asus Strix Scar 17 se.

It has two nvme drives (Micron_3400_MTFDKBA1T0TFH). When purchased, with Windows, the two drives were mirrored (raid 0). Since then, trying to install linux, only one drive can be seen at a time.

Here is an excerpt from dmesg using the livecd:

Redis configured for ssl/tls

Version 6 of redis supports TLS directly, but I am having trouble getting that to work. Their documentation emphasizes that there is a directive make BUILD_TLS=yes required.

I am trying to prove to myself that the setting BUILD_TLS is there, but I don't know enough to answer that question ...

multilib-strict check failed!

I recently updated the profile to 17.1 following the instructions as far as I can tell correctly, and successfully. A few days ago I noticed I had a runaway process that showed in as kworker/0:1+kacpid. In my investigations, one thing led to another, things got worse. Long story short I finally ...

If you are still having a problem invoking vnc you might try using for example -vnc :5, where the ip address is implied and you are just selecting the display port for vnc. When I use it this way, vnc is available on both localhost and other ip address.

Hope this helps.

All right I am going to mark this problem as (somewhat) solved.

Basically, I am satisfied, although there is an unresolved issue which I will look at later.

For those who look at this later:

If you unremark the entry in /etc/default/grub

GRUB_TERMINAL=console

it sidesteps the issue and all the ...

I'm not sure if this is in the right section, so please point somewhere else if necessary.

I have started playing with opencv and I want to use two webcams for this. While one works just fine, I am able to use two only if the resolution is moved from 640x480 to 320x240.

The error that I get with a ...

Sorry Gerard,

I interpreted that as a let-me-google-that-for-you comment, and so I apologize. I have indeed searched google for linux cad and open source. What I was hoping for was someone who had first hand knowledge of something that they use, like and had gotten to work with Gentoo.

I thank you ...

but I'll take a close look at the ebuild that resides there.

Thanks very much.

Google's a wonderful thing, but it is not showing me the reason that FreeCAD was removed from portage. It seemed like someone closer to Gentoo might know.

What is the reason that FreeCAD is no longer supported?

I noticed that FreeCAD used to be in portage, but is no longer there. Does anyone happen to know the reason that it was taken out?

Also, what I am really after is the best open source CAD program for 3d work and solid modeling.

Thanks for any help that you can give me.

Software RAID and a bootable cd-rom

I am going to be setting up a new system and I am going to use software RAID.

I see in the guidelines that it is recommended that the boot drive not be part of the raid system. It pains my thrifty nature to use a several GB drive for just booting the system, since the boot partition is typically ...

Automated method for deleting old distfiles? [SOLVED]

I'm running out of room on my laptop and was looking for things to delete. Distfiles that have been long superceded look like good candidates.

Of course, I can pick through them and delete. But, I was wondering if there was some automated method that I could invoke (or should have been using) that ...
