Agreed! I'm surprised it has not been included in gentoo in some way or another. From the bug report it looks like a personality clash rather than anything technical. Grabbing it from sourceforge and make etc works out of the box surely an ebuild can cope with this.

Just thought I would quickly say how impressed I am with this tool.
I think the idea of indexing config files and recoording which ones are unmodified
is an innovation that really should be in portage by default.

Just a small thing that may imrpove it would be to set the alias in roots

Does the image appear when it gets to loading the splash runlevel?

I got mine working after trying the following:

1). Make sure you have created the initrd image correctly. Plenty of places tell you how that should happen, see the gentoo wiki for a pretty good guide.

2). Remove the colour depth ...

The drives are jumpered with the above the slave, and the master on the cable being the other driver in question.
The other drive has another os, and is not used by my gentoo at all so there is less reason to have them on seperate channels even though that would be prefferable. Unfortunately with ...

Code: Select all

Same output for domain and local

Re-merge that and you should have all your scripts back.

Frustrating HDD problem

Hi all,

Having spent the afternoon crawling through the plethora of threads regarding hdparm, dma, slow computers, slow hard disks, cdroms, dvds etc etc I have finally hit a brick wall.

I have dma enabled on my disks, except that I am getting very poor transfer speeds from them.

I have a KT4V ...

I removed duplicate entries in the /etc/prelink.conf file and prelink has seemed to work.

Should this become a bug report? It seems that the behaviour of env-update is wrong, or at least prelink needs to be able to deal with duplicates?

Does anyone have anything else to add?

Recompile glibc with -nptl in your use flags. That should fix the problem.

Or you could always try a 2.6 kernel. The process to shift to the new kernel is quite painless really.

Well looking at those entries, here's the differences that I see (if it helps what has changed), The theme shouldn't matter if default points to emergance, but the video mode specification is different... You don't specify a colour depth in the second one.

Exactly what I was thinking,
wonder if ...

Thanks for the reply. That's where I've been hacking

I suspect your and my problem is due to subtle errors in configuration, all due to inadequate documentation.

*sigh*

I have a problem with my gensplash.
The problem is that the framebuffer works (1280x1024@85). It does not, however start with a theme (should be emergence). I have tried it with the image compiled in the kernel or in as an initrd as per:
