Hi,

congrats to your new 3Ware system!
I'm running a 2.4 Gentoo System with a 3Ware 7000-2 now and tried to upgrade to 2.6!

What kernel options did you switch on for the 3Ware controler?

My fresh compiled 2.6 stops with kernel panic because I did't point to the right boot device (with kernel 2.4 ...

Maybe it's your mainboard's APM function!

Some mainboards use CTRL-ATL-BackSpace for APM SHUTDOWN! Disable APM in grub apm=off or similar with lilo and try again.

In Grub.conf insert option "noapic"

Sometimes it does magic!

Problem SOLVED !

It was no kernel problem, no module problem, no initrd problem - it was APIC !

The 3Ware Controller and the mobo's ide-controller together did't cope with APIC. I disabled it with the "noapic" option in grub.conf and now everything is fine!

Thanks for your help,
Karsten.

Problem solved!

It was no kernel, no module problem.
I only had to disable the APIC function!

My mobo's ide-controller and the 3Ware Controller won't cope with APIC !

Now I use the "noapic" option in grub.conf and everything is alright now!

Hi folks,

Just installed the complete Gentoo thing again because my 3Ware-IDE-RAID controller and the ide-scsi emulation didn't cope another.. I installed completely from the beginning using initrd.

OK, now the scsi modules are loaded in the right sequence so that all devices are recognized. But ...

Hi,

now I added the -f option and nothing has changed.
But when I did the initrd modify I didn't copy initrd.old from the mentioned path because it is simply not present?

I installed Gentoo before using 3Ware not as module but with full support. When I did boot the 3Ware Controller was found ...

I added the modules but not with the -f option, is it necessary?
I will try.

I use the 3Ware 7000-2 with 2 ports and two 160GB Samsung.

Will be back soon....;-)

I did it as described in the link above. I compiled the kernel only with modules.

I added ...

sg.o
sr_mod.o
sd_mod.o
scsi_mod.o
3w-xxxx.o

to /tmp/initrd.ext2

and gziped it again. Copy to /boot.

Now grub.conf contents of:

root(0,8)
kernel (hd0,8)/boot/bzImage root=/dev/sda11 .....
initrd (hd0 ...

To use initrd do I only have to put in the initrd line into grub.conf after compiling the kernel the modules only.

Is there an initrd option in the kernel?

Thanks.

3Ware IDE-RAID0 and IDE-SCSI emulation issue

Hello,

I don't know how to fix this:

I want to use a bootable 3Ware-IDE-RAID0 and the IDE-SCSI emulation for an IDE-CDRW and an IDE-DVDRW.

There is a generic 3Ware driver in the kernel at SCSI-adapters. So I think the adapter is used like a real SCSI-Adapter. So I have to compile the kernel with ...

Here's a way...

Hello again,

I found a way to override this canon-patch but after this the patch isn't included!

Go into the /usr/portage/media-libs/libgphoto2/files directory an rename the canon patch file libgphoto2-2.1.2-canon.patch into ~.old with mv:

"mv libgphoto2-2.1.2-canon.patch libgphoto2-2.1.2-canon ...

Anyone a solution for this?

Hello,

this is my second Gentoo installation :D and this time I decided to emerge kde. But now I encounter the same problem - has anyone a fix for this? Besides I dont't need an canon-patch, I use a Sony!

Thanks, Karsten.
