Hi,


I did my third Gentoo installation, but I didn't get everything running yet.

My system:

K7S5A Pro, Athlon-XP 1800+, 1GB RAM
3Ware RAID 7000-2 plus 2 x 160 GB Samsung
NVidia GF4 Ti4200
SBLive
onboard IDE0: DVD-ROM
onboard IDE1: (Mas) DVD+-RW , (Sec) CD-RW

the third installation using initrd:
Gentoo: 2.4.20-r8
KDE: 3.1.4
XFree: 4.3.99.14


Everytime I installed Gentoo I had problems with my onboard-connected burning ROMS using the ide-scsi emulation. The 3Ware-conroller module has to be loaded after loading the ide-scsi module- other way round system crahses (1st + 2nd installation). So I installed Gentoo using initrd including scsi_mod.o sd_mod.o ide-scsi.o 3w-xxxx.o. But this time when starting KDE, kdm waits approx. 5 minutes to come up! I found that during this time the scsi module seeks for the connected burning ROMS, dmesg says so...

What can I do now? All SCSI things are compiled as modules, initrd loads modules in the right order, but it still isn't working... :-(

Problem solved!

It was no kernel, no module problem.
I only had to disable the APIC function!

My mobo's ide-controller and the 3Ware Controller won't cope with APIC !

Now I use the "noapic" option in grub.conf and everything is alright now!
