Topic: Nautilus 2.22.5.1 (x64) cannot mount optical drives [SOLVED]

The problem with commenting out the drive entries in /etc/fstab is that by default nautilus/hal seems to want to mount the drive as /media/[VOL LABEL]. This is obnoxious for applications like crossover and other things that like to refer to the CD devices by a static directory for their mount points ...

Sorry for not being completely obvious. I assumed that when I posted that I moved up to mozilla-firefox-bin-3.0 that the fact that I actually WANTED to use mozilla-firefox-bin-3.0 (i.e. /usr/bin/firefox-bin and not /usr/bin/firefox) was obvious. Apparently I can't make that assumption.

Next time I ...

Sorry, but those aren't the right solutions or even solutions to the specific problem. By switching thunderbird to /usr/bin/firefox it's no longer using the mozilla-firefox-bin package, it's using the source built firefox which is
a) not what I want
b) still a problem because firefox 3 doesn't like ...

VNC client that scales remote display down to window size?

The KDE vnc client has a great feature where it can scale the remote display down to fit the size of the VNC window on the vnc client system.

Is there a gnome, or otherwise generic VNC client that does the same thing?

thunderbird won't launch firefox-bin 3 as http handler

I moved up to mozilla-firefox-bin-3.0 and noticed that when thunderbird attempts to launch the browser nothing happens. The processes appear to be spawned properly:

15085 ? S 0:00 /bin/bash /usr/libexec/mozilla-launcher
15095 ? Sl 0:01 \_ /usr/lib64/mozilla-thunderbird/thunderbird-bin

Hi,
I am a kde user.
I read about banshee in this thead:
emerge -pv banshee -> 63 new files!!
Including Gnome desktop.
Why?
Gerard.

because banshee is built heavily on top of gtk stuff and gstreamer. Depending on what your useflags are, there's alot to pull in. It's actually built on mono and gtk ...

I mostly use a media player for nothing more than searching and playing stuff from my mp3 library, so rhythmbox actually works fine for me. I use my mac's itunes to get podcasts onto my ipod and to sync to my ipod.

- Don't like the file manager --> use PCMan
- Archiver Programs are all not really good
- Audacious is an eyecandy winamp substitute
- xchat, skype, etc. are okay anyway

I've been running amd64 gentoo forever now. It was back when I bought my athlon 64 3200+ when they first came out. Not sure what year that was sometime in 2004 or 2005. I only had 1GB RAM to begin with so there really wasn't any benefit to 64-bit, but it was a fun thing to do. Early on it was a ...

I'm just running stable gnome ebuilds on amd64 so 2.20.3. Maybe I will give 2.22 a try when it goes stable. The last time I tried gnome was 2.16 or 2.14 I can't remember, so to go from over a dozen complaints to 3 is really good progress IMO.

I'll try deluge, see if it works better. I tried gnome ...

My Gnome experience (from a KDE user)

Just to start with, I'm not trying to start a KDE/Gnome flame war. I just wanted to post my general thoughts on it based purely on my experiences with specific issues. I don't intend to attack the philosophies of either gnome/gtk or kde/qt. I just want to base this post on my experience of what ...

The problem I'm having isn't really solved with a new 32-bit freetype built without bindist USE flag.

I don't like the way fonts look with Full hinting. I prefer medium hinting. However, if I use medium hinting, the fonts on 32-bit firefox-bin's menu bar are larger than under 64-bit firefox.

If I ...

For a workaround
create /etc/env.d/99motif32 with the following one line content:
LDPATH=/usr/lib32/openmotif-2.2

run env-update

all done, no need to downgrade the package.
