thunderbird won't launch firefox-bin 3 as http handler

I moved up to mozilla-firefox-bin-3.0 and noticed that when thunderbird attempts to launch the browser nothing happens. The processes appear to be spawned properly:

15085 ? S 0:00 /bin/bash /usr/libexec/mozilla-launcher
15095 ? Sl 0:01 \_ /usr/lib64/mozilla-thunderbird/thunderbird-bin
15107 ? S 0:00 \_ /bin/sh /opt/firefox/firefox http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/
15111 ? S 0:00 \_ /bin/sh /opt/firefox/run-mozilla.sh /opt/firefox/firefox-bin http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/
15117 ? S 0:00 \_ /opt/firefox/firefox-bin http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/

mozilla-firefox-bin-2 and mozilla-firefox-2 work fine. Due to various dependencies I haven't yet been able to build mozilla-firefox-3 package though and I usually use the binary 32-bit package as I need the java plugin.

Anyone else run into this and any ideas what might cause this?

Try adding these lines to .thunderbird/c0mcbqm0.default/prefs.js

Code: Select all

user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.http", "/usr/bin/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.https", "/usr/bin/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.ftp", "/usr/bin/firefox");
they just tell Thunderbird where to find firefox.

Sorry, but those aren't the right solutions or even solutions to the specific problem. By switching thunderbird to /usr/bin/firefox it's no longer using the mozilla-firefox-bin package, it's using the source built firefox which is
a) not what I want
b) still a problem because firefox 3 doesn't like aoss

Anyways, I filed a bug, figured out the problem and have a workaround firefox-bin script:

Sorry for not being completely obvious. I assumed that when I posted that I moved up to mozilla-firefox-bin-3.0 that the fact that I actually WANTED to use mozilla-firefox-bin-3.0 (i.e. /usr/bin/firefox-bin and not /usr/bin/firefox) was obvious. Apparently I can't make that assumption.

Next time I'll try to be more specific.

Apparently you read WAY too much into what I typed. I had no intention of being a condescending ass and any interpretation of it that way was not intended on my part.

You should make 'damn sure' about your future wording as your current wording isn't the type of behaviour we'd like to see in the forums.
Nothing is secure / Security is always a trade-off with usability / Do not assume anything / Trust no-one, nothing / Paranoia is your friend / Think for yourself
