Re: Subforums layout

I think we should simply have different forums for each language:

forums.gentoo.de
forums.gentoo.be

etc....

This way they can each maintain their own structure and stay within their own search space. I personally don't like getting results of a search for a common term in 7 different languages ...

For xfce, just do something like this and you'll be fine for running the newest version:

ls /usr/portage/xfce-base >> /usr/portage/package.keywords
ls /usr/portage/xfce-extra >> /usr/portage/package.keywords

But delete the metadata.xml entries it will copy.

I have no idea why the newest xfce ...

If you have the sound card modules built into the kernel, you can have the kernel assign devices in a different order like this in your grub.conf:

kernel /bzImage-2.6.15 root=/dev/hda3 snd-emu10k1.index=0 snd-intel8x0.index=1

This way, ALSA, OSS, and whatever other sound daemon will order the ...

It doesn't, that's my problem (should've included (`) in my original post, sorry). I get a blinking cursor. I can't type anything or do anything. I've pressed every key on the keyboard, and not a single one does anything at that point.

Enemy Territory: I get stuck in the console! [Solved]

During gameplay, If I enter the console (`), there is no cursor for my to type with and I cannot exit with an Esc. I can't get out of the console even though the game is still functioning and can watch the gameplay around me. I have to kill it to get out of it. This does not affect me between maps ...

It'd be nice if all those ebuilds followed the frickin' policy...

Yes, that has been a large bump in the learning process.

For example, many of the webapps don't use the portage abstractions that I'm assuming they should be using (I don't know for sure, I just know abstractions are usually put ...

I'd like to see another example or two besides rt in the guide to using the webapp eclass to make ebuilds. I failed to create an ebuild for the simplest webapp I could find (http://planscalendar.com/).

What's the key sequence for a new tab? Is there none? Also, I can't find a sequence to move between tabs.

Could you explain what "Scroll on output" and "Scroll on keystroke" mean?

Also, it'd be great to support true transparency on Xfce using Xfce's compositor, but beggars can't be choosers. :)

Hi ahoogerhuis ,

I look forward to seeing your 1.2.4 + tomcat 5 ebuild. I'll test it as soon as I see it on bugs.g.o. Just a quick note to make the ebuild a bit more future proof:

I would replace your use of xargs with find's -exec switch. It is safer to use (albeit slower) because xargs doesn't ...

Gtk2 + librsvg -- why is SVG not a use flag for Gtk2?

From stage3, I built xfce4 with 'svg' defined in my use flags, but SVG support was never built into gtk2. However, it seems gtk2 needs to be build with librsvg in order for xfce4 to display SVG icons.

There seem to have been several related bugs opened & closed (67989, 79903) but I don't see a fix ...

I'm now hooked on wxMusik. There used to not be a good Gtk2 Rhythmbox-style player that wouldn't drag in all the Gnome deps (and could handle 10k+ FLACs). Now there's an ebuild in Bugzilla that works fine and I'm not turning back.

I finished a 2005.1 installation, and as a user I cannot read the contents of /. I can read the contents of subdirectories, but just not /.

Do I need to change permissions on both / and /dev/hda3? What should the permissions look like on both / and the device?
