Corsair RGB memory control or lack thereof

I've got Corsair RGB Vengeance Memory & out of curiosity I went searching to see if there was any Linux support for it. Short answer: no. But here's what I discovered on my way to that conclusion. FWIW motherboard is an Asus, not sure how much that matters.

The majority of Corsair projects are ...

Using clang as the system compiler

I've seen attempts many times over the years to use clang globally & with the recent release of llvm 6 I figured I'd give it. To be precise on what 'using clang' means - swapping out gcc, g++, ar, as, nm, and libunwind with their llvm/clang equivalents. No compiler-rt, no libc++, no lld. Also not ...

First build of firefox-58.0 failed with the above error using 'sudo su -' on a terminal in X. I do the majority of my updates this way without issue. I dropped back to a VT & logged in directly as root & it worked fine.

Saw on IRC today mention that once the mesa 7.5 branch gets created (ETA "real soon") they're going to merge the radeon-rewrite branch to master. One less random branch to track down.

Also interested to see how the gallium OpenVG state tracker is getting released tomorrowish works out. Hope that ...

irrelevant!

Looks like the developement has moved to slightly different trees now, and the state of things sounds promising:

Looks to only be for R300 - R500 cards, people with newer hardware are going to have to wait a bit more I'm afraid.

Judging from the commits it dooesn't look like the branches I mentioned have any support for the r6xx r7xx cards. Most of the current work seems focused on the r2xx to r5xx cards. mesa has 2 branches you should check out - r6xx-r7xx-support and r6xx-rewrite. Looks like these are the beginnings of a ...

You should try the r6xx-r7xx-support branch of drm & mesa. Its pretty new so make sure you wear your seatbelt. Or you can just send me your card & I'll try it for you =)

Any idea on the gallium part of all this? None, I was wondering the same, but according to the ebuild; "Radeon: not working, disabled."

We could probably try forcibly enabling it, I just ran ./configure --help on the unpacked mesa sources from the radeon-rewrite branch and --enable-gallium ...

@Hopeless Thanks, been meaning to do this for a couple weeks now, just finally got motivated this morning. kernel patches... neat, how did you generate those? Not tested xv, so no clue. Any idea on the gallium part of all this?

HOWTO: latest ATI devel - KMS / GEM / Gallium3D

Heres my go at getting all the latest Xorg goodies you read about - DRI2 / KMS / GEM / gallium / etc. The hardware victim is a T60 IBM Thinkpad with an ATI Mobility X1400 GPU. The base system is an up to date ~x86 using only the x11 overlay. A couple of the ebuilds from overlay needed modifications ...

I just finished the initial compile on a 90MHz Pentium laptop w/ 40Megs of ram. No record for slowest machine ever to run Gentoo but a sufficient challenge considering I had to bootstrap off of a Debian install due to the cdrom not booting. I view this machine as a hobby in a similar manner to ...

cruft substitute?

Is there any portage specific program that provides a similar function to Debian's cruft[1]? Hacking a shell script together using stuff in gentoolkit would be pretty easy, I was just wondering if anyone had already taken a stab at this? Or perhaps this sort of thing would be better approached in ...

Now that I check I'm unsure who the author is, but it was Hanno who mentioned it on the xorg mailing list. This patch is included in xorg-server-1.1.99.903-r1. Previously I wasn't getting any alpha channels making the borders around all my windows ...

Hooray, it works!!!

Seems mesa 6.5.2 + xorg-server 1.1.9.903 & Hanno's patch does the trick for me. Works beautifully on both my amd64 G965 box and x86 ati R300 laptop. Lets hope the xorg people include the patch in the final 7.2 release.

Tried the patch and it crashes X on start =( I checked the rc2 release and it doesn't look like that patch made it in there.

R300

I've got an R300 in my laptop. Its got both open & closed source drivers for it. Not a fan of ATI's drivers so I use the open source ones, tho they are still kinda beta. The 6150 is prolly your better bet.

ok I saw this in portage... so I decided to try it in my staging computer :-)
ok well after 1 hour adding packages to unmask etc.. it starts to emerge everything..

Next time copy and paste the package names to unmask out of the section in /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask. Save you a little ...
