Now it's giving me "unsupported hardware" nonsense :(

Wireless Fails (IPW2200 or Atheros?!)

Hey guys,
I've been pulling my hair out for the last month trying to get Gentoo to load my wifi. Now, on the install disk it loads up eth0 and eth1, but even using the install CD's kernel (and modprobing all the modules later), I can't get it to load eth1 again.

On the install disk, eth1 is my ...

I've actually got the same problem... I formatted to Windows so [inept] family members could use the system... I went back to Gentoo a little over a month ago and didn't need wifi, so I didn't configure it. Now that I want it, it just doesn't work...

These packages will probably solve your problem.
There are also many topics on this subject.

Some of the topics are obsolete... heres the one that should do most people

I can't find the scripts...

hotplug + genkernel aren't loading it, trying to find it now, but if anyone has links they'd be appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

Ignore me lol

Thanks DAppel. I thought my error was with the kernel, apparently not :)

(or so it appears - we'll see on next compile)

[SOLVED] LiveCD Load Appropriate Modules?

Hey guys, again I'm doing something peculiar (like that's unusual).
Basically, I built a liveCD using a genkernel (as I thought that'd be best) and rolled in most of the modules for networking drivers.
I'm wondering if there's a way to detect the drivers as needed. I spoke to a friend they said ...

Yeah, probably, I'll have to start pulling things to ISO from now on...

Thanks guys :)

bin and cue

How do I either
a) burn bin and cue
b) convert to .iso (thus solving a)
c) mount on loopback (thus solving all of the above...)

If you can answer B and C it'd be great :)

Linux Answering Machine (LTModem)

Ok, so I dropped in an "Agere" modem (which is a Lucent Winmodem I believe) and emerge'd mgetty (which does vgetty too). I installed the webmin interface for the not-so-technically minded at this place to check messages.

At the moment I can't get the program to convert to the modem's format... it ...

Try "rc-update add net.eth0 default"

If that doesn't work, maybe you haven't configured it?

nano -w /etc/init.d/net

Change it to something like this:

config_eth0=( "192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0" )
routes_eth0=( "default gw 192.168.0.1" )

Hopefully that will solve the problem (along with ...

"PC platform" is very inaccurate

In the case of ID, it is usually very accurate since they support all the main operating systems for the PC platform. (By having open source clients, they make support for any OS a possibility)

It's when others use it to mean "the latest windows" we have problems ...

Hi SteakTheMooCow,

thank you for your GUI post. I have few questions to ask:

1) is X11 or emul-linux-x86-xlibs the issue as being related to X? Any idea?

As far as I know its X11, but I re-emerged xlibs for libXext.so and libXext.a. In the last 24 hours, however, I'm switched to an unstable ...

I was actually going to suggest, if you have an unused hard drive, to mount it as /opt/ut2004 ... the game is huge, but not massive, so partition the new HDD...

A symlink would work I suppose...
