Installation/Distfile Identification Suggestions

Hello All.

SCOPE OF THE IDEA
Suggestion of a configuration creation utility that identifies/downloads all distfiles necessary to install a system w/o having to use Linux. The utility would:
-be a 3rd party executible available for any number of architectures/operating systems, or ideally a web ...

Wireless NIC cards (PCI) and LiveCD 2005.1-r1

Does anyone know what wireless NIC cards (PCI-interface) are supported by 2005.1-r1 LiveCD? I currently use a Netgear WG311T and it requires madwifi drivers which I know weren't included in the 2005.1 cd. I'm not sure about the r1 version though.

I'd like to basically be able to buy a new card from ...

Yes!
I have a Plextor PX-716SA and it's been working flawlessly now for 2 months. I've burned countless CDs and DVDs with it.
Currently running 2.6.13-gentoo-r2 with no problems, I use this patch to make things quick and easy when updating:

diff -urN linux-2.6.12/include/linux/libata.h linux-2.6 ...

Damn--I want this! However, does anyone know if SATA/SATA-II for DVD readers/writers is built in through enabling such in libata.h? It would be a waste for me and others to download the iso, burn the image and find that we can't boot the kernel and use it.

Alsa on N-Force 4 (Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe) [SOLVED]

hello:

I'm trying to get Alsa to work with my Asus A8n-SLI deluxe mobo.

I've gone with the http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml documentation--the path that compiles support into the kernel and when it runs modules-update, I get errors. after stopping and then starting alsa-sound, I get the ...

I currently am at work and no longer have access to my comp remotely as SSHD is down (looking in the 2.6.13(r1) dir).

So if the makefile contains version information (which would seem to indicate you are right) -- then simply compiling a new kernel 2.6.12(r10) kernel should result with a new ...

esperto: I tried modules-update to no avail (although did not try rebooting afterwords)

dgaffuri: I would otherwise agree with you except this, I deleted my /root and /usr partitions after using the 2.6.13(r1)--this I imagine would knock out those sources. Before using 2.6.13(r1), grub was pointing ...

upon rebooting, it seems that all the modules that previously worked no longer boot.
I was using the 2.6.13-gentoo-r1 kernel by mistake, and dropped back to the more reliable 2.6.12-gentoo-r10 version (this fixed the vfat problem)

now when I try to run /etc/init.d/net.ath0 start (my internet init ...

mounting problems [new issue]

odd--for some reason I am unable to mount my 100GB portable HD (the HD with the mp3s, movies, etc on it) -- it is a vfat partition (fat32).
My kernel (kernel-2.6.12-r10-gentoo) has vfat support and mosdos fs support--but when I actually try to mount the drive, I get the error:

DHCPCD

Hi:

A about a week or so ago I finally got my wireless internet up and running. I emerged dhcpcd and made the appropriate changes in the /etc/conf.d/net file (or /etc/init.d/net -- wherever it resides)

Things were working smoothly up until last night.
I booted up Gentoo and all my wireless lan ...

okay--I tried this but my terminals still seem to be the same size. I tried using one of the consolefonts (to make the text smaller--more like the 2005.1 live cd size) but they don't seem to work.

for example:

in /etc/X11/consolefont

CONSOLEFONT="ISO-08x08" does not work
