Did you search the documentation on http://www.sybase.com/linuxpromo?
In typical Sybase fashion they'll spew the same old line about x, y and z are supported. Don't waste your time there.

I thought it might have been a library issue. I've emerged lib-compat didn't help.

Did anyone get past this issue?

Local Rsync Mirror not syncing distfiles and packages [solve

Hi All

I've set up a local rsync mirror for the rest of my LAN. The problems lies in that the 'emerge --sync' when performed from another LAN machine doesn't pull the 'distfiles' and 'packages' directory under /usr/portage.

Here is my rsyncd.conf

# This line is required by the /etc/init.d/rsyncd ...

Hi There

First questions

Is there a way to pick-up an emerge half-way through? I figure using this list I can figure out how far through the process got and emerge what's necessary separately, but I don't want to reinvent the wheel due to lack of knowledge

If you mean 1/2 way through compiling ...

One thing you could look at maybe is nfs mount the portage tree, then they'll all share the same tree.

Maybe you could rsync across the tree...

I've never tried doing an emerge sync with no portage tree in place.

I have tried tar-balling an existing portage tree....yuk way too many files T.T

Yea

usually the process involves putting a basic system onto your computer from the CD. Then you 'emerge' the rest which is essentially pulled from the internet. 'Emerge' does all the compiling for you.

Enjoy

Hey There

Have you had a look at this link? It would answer a lot of your questions.

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/h ... xml?full=1

Gentoo usually relies on a internet connection but you can get a cd with packages on it =D

I assume your hp's ip hasn't changed?

Also do you have any access restrictions setup? Can your gentoo laptop ssh into your samba server? (assuming ssh is open)

One last thing

does log.nmbd & log.smbd output any errors when you try to connect?

Also if you re-emerge the old version of mysql does it bring back the init-scripts?

Sounds like a permission's issue, does it give you any errors during the install update process. Maybe you could run unstable azureus instead =D
