#1.
Problem:
Code:
bash-2.05b# compiz
compiz: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing
compiz: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz: No managable screens found on display localhost:2.0

Solution:
Put the LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ before compiz command line
Code:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ DISPLAY=:1 compiz
This isn't working for me. I put in the whole

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ compiz

and I still get

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ DISPLAY=:1 compiz gconf
compiz: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing
compiz: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz: No managable screens found on display :1

Any ideas on how to fix this?

It's not a cheap card, far from it. And there's no DRI support for it at this point. Why is that? And can I expect to see DRI support for my card in Xgl in a close future?

I'm a little disapointed, but it's a really good video card though. I'll rely on windows to play my games for now.
Same card here, I'm avoiding to install xgl for that problem. Did you tried latest nvidia-drivers? (1.0.87576)
They solved some issue for my 128Mb AGP 6800 NU, so might be worth a try.....

hello guys
I am running perfectly XGL with the xgl-coffee overlay, and my nvidia 6600 gt .
The only problem I have is that : I cannot run games with cedega . When I do the hardware test , cedega tells me that there is no OpenGL hardware acceleration. so , everygamees crashed, even if they not use OpenGL but directX ...
My other problem is that , when I try to run Doom3 for exemple, I got these errors :

I really dont understand :/

And finaly, last things : when I do glxgears, it tells me that there is no direct rendering ... well I dont understand , because I saw a video for XGL (the novel video), where the guys lauched Quake3 and was running something like glxgears but in 3D !
well if you have any advice , thankx :)

well the short answer is that XGL doesn't support direct rendering yet so the errors you're getting are pretty normal. Also cedega translates the directx calls into opengl calls, so that's why you can't run your games directly in XGL. You could start another X server on a second display and execute your games over there.
Eg:

Code: Select all

xinit -e /path/to/your/game -- :2

Black screen continues

Been hammering at this for 3 days now.

Anyhow I'm running a clean install of 2006.0.

After following the instruction in the Xgl Gentoo Wiki, Xgl fires right up. Get the expected 50% grey and a cursor. In a cosole I run: DISPLAY=:1 xterm Screen goes black and I can see a bit of the text from the xterm window. If I fire up compiz from the xterm window, I get the blue background, but the xterm window goes completely white. Hitting Ctl-C to kill compiz and I get a normal X window with the 50% grey and my xterm looking normal. The xterm has a few hundred errors with:

Code: Select all

compiz: Couldn't bind redirected window 0x40001a to texture
I've tried launching compiz with and without specifing the LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib

I've tried recompiling a dozen times with using:

Code: Select all

emerge mesa
eselect opengl set nvidia
emerge nvidia-glx glitz xgl
eselect opengl set xorg-x11
emerge compiz
eselect opengl set nvidia
I get no errors duing the compile.

Relevant info-
Vidcard: GeForce4 ti 4200 128M
nvidia-glx: 1.0.8756
mesa: 6.4.2
glitz: 0.5.5_p20060323
xgl: 0.0.1_p20060418
I've tried will all 3 compiz variants:
compiz-quinnstorm: 0.0.9.3
compiz-vanilla 0.0.9_p200604016
compiz: 0.0.7_p20060404

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Jeff

Are you using the "layman" overlay ?
Have you tried using the latest xgl-coffee overlay instead?
There is some updated info in the XGL wiki howto.
There has been many updates and fixes since compiz-quinnstorm 9.3
The latest xgl-coffee rev 207 overlay includes compiz-quinnstorm 10.14

I just ended up blowing everything associated with Xgl away and starting over from scratch. Worked this time.

I did exactly the directions in the guide & when i run the command:

Code: Select all

i get the next line:

Code: Select all

compiz: Couldn't bind redirected window 0x60000e to texture
the diffrence from the other issues is that i don't see the line:

Code: Select all

compiz: pixmap 0x200043 can't be bound to texture
Also, in my problem I see blue screen & the windows in white boxes, like this: http://oc666.dyndns.org/Glx_Problem.png
Bt"w, I have GeForce4 MX 440.
I'm think i revealed what cause the problem, but I don't know how to fix it.
when I do

Code: Select all

glxinfo | grep GL_ARB_texture_rectangle
the output is:

Code: Select all

    GL_ARB_texture_mirrored_repeat, GL_ARB_texture_rectangle,
.
But when I do

Code: Select all

DISPLAY=:1 glxinfo | grep GL_ARB_texture_rectangle
no output for that command.
I guess that I need to enable this option to resolve that problem.
Somebody have a suggestions?

actually after an upgrade of XGL package i had also this problem:

Code: Select all

compiz: Couldn't bind redirected window 0x40001a to texture
the solution was to unmerge compiz and emerge compiz-quinnstorm (and the updated packages it depends on)

If you may enlighten me, I cannot quite comprehend the present state of nvidia+xgl compatibility. Can someone who has followed this discussion post a summary, maybe on gentoo-wiki, about this?

Thanks!

Hey... I have an nVidia GeForce FX 5500 on a Pentium 4 Machine... and Xgl is simply unable to start... doing any Xgl commands just makes it hang and stay there... you can grab more information from the post I made, and have not yet gotten any responses for: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-482458.html

Any ideas, guys?
