"emerge -Up world" problem!

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

"emerge -Up world" problem!

When i do "emerge -Up world", it says that it wants to install packages that i dont even have. For example,
[ebuild U ] xfce-base/xfwm4-4.0.1 [3.99.2]
[ebuild N ] games-fps/quake3-1.32b-r3

It lists a bunch of XFCE ones. I did have these packages at one time, but then unmerged them.

I really dont know what the problem is. If anyone could help, that would be wonderful.

Ok well it was all my fault ;)
Who would have known :S. Hehe

Another question tho.. Is there a way to update your system, but leave out a package it wants to update. For example, i need to update everything that emerge -Up world shows me, except for mozilla-firebird. Anyway of doing this without emerging mozilla-firebird?

you could do

Code: Select all

emerge -i mozilla-firebird
As far as I can tell this makes portage think mozilla-firebird has be emerged already so it skips over it.

Either remove it from /var/cahce/edb/world or inject it:

Code: Select all

emerge --inject mozilla-firebird

You could create /etc/portage/package.mask and add this into it:

Code: Select all

>mozilla-firebird-0.6.1
Replace 0.6.1 with the version you have installed.
