I guess it will take time. I don't think there has been much effort towards removing hal from e.red-wolf76 wrote:Just busy ditching hal from my system because of the switch to xorg-server 1.8... he can feel it already... his mind is going...
but elementary with the dbus USE-flag depends on hal, even when e_dbus is compiled without it.Meh... Any chance this'll be fixable?

Agreed. Gave up on e17 after years of waiting for a stable release. Been using e16 forever, but its showing its age with xorg-server-1.7.6.gfaccin wrote:I think e17 is a myth. I've used e16 for years. About 2 months ago I gave up waiting for a release of e17 and moved on to compiz-fusion. This thing will never reach stable status. Ok you can install the pre-alpha stage and play with it knowing that it might freeze (it's development code, after all). I've even done it about 2 years ago to take a look at the thing.
My point is: perhaps less features and more frequent releases could bring users to e17. The way it is, except for the very adventurous people who wanna try repository code, few will stick with e17 for real use at the job.
And I'm a guy who really likes the enlightenment manager. I gave up e16 just 2 months ago on my desktop, and here on my notebook from where I'm typing the text, I'm still on E16. But at the moment, compiz is rulling the scene. Perhaps I might see a stable e17 release before I die of old age...

Weird, after reading this I emerged it from the niifaq overlay and it built without issue. The only problem I initially had with niifaq was eina because I had the threads USE flag turned on in make.conf. Once I realized why it kept failing I emerge eina with USE="-threads" and it built.red-wolf76 wrote:Ho-hum... I'm currently back to using Gnome. Less candy, but MUCH more responsive now that hal is out of the way...
Even with ecomorph, e17 was pretty, but suboptimal from a usability pov (I'm on a fairly dated machine here).
P.S.: And yes, e_modules-drawer always failing to compile is a PITA too.
This problem was there for around 24hours. It has been since fixed in svn. You don't need to give -threads now.Chopinzee wrote: Weird, after reading this I emerged it from the niifaq overlay and it built without issue. Not sure about ecomorph though. I have stopped using any form of composite. If you really want help, you could ask jeffdameth (the maintainer of ecomorph) at #e.Right now my only problem is ecomorph. Module is loaded, and I get transparency in konsole (so I know the compositing is working), but none of the decorations are working. No fire, explosions, wobble, etc.

Nice, I'll rebuild it thenppurka wrote:This problem was there for around 24hours. It has been since fixed in svn. Ta for the heads up, I'll ask the source.ppurka wrote:Not sure about ecomorph though. I have stopped using any form of composite. If you really want help, you could ask jeffdameth (the maintainer of ecomorph) at #e.
You can change the font sizes by using the Scale Settings. You can change the size of the fonts by setting the "Custom Scaling factor".BitJam wrote:I've just installed the 9999 version of e17 according to the instructions in the wiki. It looks very slick but I'm unable to adjust the size of the fonts. I've got the DPI set in my xorg.conf and it has been working properly for years. I got to the Settings --> Fonts page but in both the basic and advanced mode, I seem to be unable to make any changes to the fonts actually used by e17. I've restarted e17 and that didn't help either. The ~/.e/e/fonts/ directory remains empty and I didn't see any files that seemed useful under /usr/share/enlightenment.
Right now the fonts are miniscule. They're even smaller than the e16 default fonts which were pretty darned small. When e17 started up I picked the "Scalable" profile in hopes that it might easily lead to more readable fonts. But so far, no joy.
I'm stuck.
