Just the fact that you don't have to go to the site means that you suddenly can broadcast a problem to all members instead of just to the one who happens to run into your question.

I really would love to see the Gentoo forums getting enhanced with rss. This would make scanning for threads you can answer a breeze!

That last forum topic quoted has feed43 RSS feeds containing titles and links to posts for many Gentoo forums. They are currently polled each 6 hours and only show the top 20 posts. ( http://feed43.com/faq.html ) Some feeds are broken, but it is easy to set them up if your forum of interest is broken or not listed. For example:

I just wrote a Python script running on GAE for generating a feed. In page 2, there is a suggestion of using feed43.com, but it has huge latency... several hours. So I decide to write one.

It scrapes "last 24 hours page" every 10 minutes, and only do on the first page. That should be enough.

bump, is this coming along at all? livibetter's service is a welcome step, but for me subtopic following through rss would be of great help, instead of the half-legged no-content 1995 "you got mail" notifications. GR shows livibetter's new topic feed to avg 300 topics/week, which i know will clutter me, so per subforum feed would be most welcome.

Not sure if bumping this thread is useful, but I was also surprised to see no RSS feeds on this forum. It would be great to be able to stay informed about what happens in Gentoo land, and help others when I can.

From experience I know that the "view posts since last visit" feature is neither reliable nor convenient.
