just so you know there is a modified version of eselect in the zen-overlay which supports kernel symlinks for zen-sources and zenmm-sources (for you git users)

Code: Select all

┌--tom@sirius---[Fr Jul 04 18:53:46]---[~]
└» uname -a
Linux sirius 2.6.26-rc8-zenmm1 #5 SMP PREEMPT Fri Jul 4 17:16:51 CEST 2008 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
yumm!

nvidia needed some

Code: Select all

sed -i -e 's:return kill_proc:return kill_pid:g' usr/src/nv/os-interface.c
It did compile and does work so far.. but might blast your graphics, whatever...

eDiT:

Code: Select all

00:46:14 up 6:48, 2 users, load average: 0.52, 0.44, 0.37
...and doing just fine!

I really like (zen)mm these days! :)

LOL. Well meanwhile it's

Code: Select all

# uptime
 17:36:39 up 23:38, 2 users, load average: 0.14, 0.04, 0.01
.. and no problems with nvidia.

What was that with xorg 1.5 and hardlocks? Haven't encountered any so far *fingers crossed*

lockless patches caused an issue with xorg 1.4.99.*, but i discussed the issue and LKML and found the bug, that is now fixed, so use xorg 1.5 all you want

idk, didnt test, virtualbox modules usually work on new kernels, its vmware that has issues keeping up to date

now if I only would succeed to compile that beast:
CHK include/linux/version.h
CHK include/linux/utsrelease.h
CALL scripts/checksyscalls.sh
CHK include/linux/compile.h
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `include/config/builtin/firmware/dir.h', needed by `firmware/n.gen.S'. Stop.
make: *** [firmware] Error 2
make: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
help - please ?

Code: Select all

find . | grep n.gen.
./arch/ia64/kernel/perfmon_generic.h
./arch/powerpc/boot/dtc-src/version_gen.h
./firmware/n.gen.S

:?

edit:
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `include/config/builtin/firmware/dir.h', needed by `firmware/n.gen.S'. Stop.
make: *** [firmware] Error 2
make: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
find . | grep firmware/dir.h
./include/config/extra/firmware/dir.h
edit2:

1) well, somehow a "n" must have gotten into Device Drivers -> Generic Driver Options -> () External firmware blobs to build into the kernel binary
and it wouldn't work; so the default entered 'n' (by make) doesn't work
clearing the field "fixed" it

2) besides that include/config/extra/firmware* should link to include/config/builtin/firmware* (I made symbolic links to make it work), another
approach surely would also work ...

sounds like you did make oldconfig and pressed n for a string option when you should have pressed return

seemingly - yes

afaik it said "N"/"Y" so I pushed n and thought it would be fine but it wasn't - the main point is that it works now :P

more info please.... what were you doing when it happened, what filesystems were involved, when did you pull last? i applied two patches from lkml that were supposed to be bug fixes but they could have broken something

I have been using rc8-mm1 for days now with xorg 1.4.99.905 w/ compiz with out issues, although i dont use ricer4

that just means your kernel is out of date (not running the latest commit)
then is it ok if i go on and compile or should i bring it to latest commit?
