It's compressed quite a bit as I'm low on space, but you can't actually tell very much. Yay _Gimp_!

I'm running:
_Fluxbox_ 0.1.14 with the BBS theme
_Gkrellm2_ with the default theme (I've not found a better theme for that yet through apathy)
_Moziilla-Firebird_ with the default theme
A variety of _aterm_s all tabbed together over on the top-left, the current one displaying _Cplay_
I'm running sylpheed in the same tab-area as Firebird
_Pysol_ is the shaded window at the bottom-left
The menu-bar is hidden away at the top-right, with all windows on top of it (I have no need for it.. tabs and sloppy focus sans-auto raise do me well here.
There's a second virtual desktop which I use for full-screen games such as _freeciv_; for , _mplayer_, Gimp, and stuff like that.

The backdrop was rendered in _POV-Ray_. I found it on some competition results site a while back and I can't even begin to remember the URL, sorry. I've not really begun to properly theme my desktop yet...however, it is lovely and low on resource-usage :) I never have to worry about memory, and my 700mhz Athlon is rarely tasked, even with tons on the go. The currently running programs are almost ALWAYS running... you can't see a _giFT_ client and a copy of _vim_ in that picture, and I usually run more than this during the day. Why bother with Gnome, KDE or anything like that?
Sometimes evil can be quite good.

Heyas,

Yeah so this screenie is a bit old, but I've had my desktop looking like this for ages:

http://www.owix.org/images/desktop.png

Fluxbox as the window manager, gkrellm is running, but I usually don't have it running I just used the screenshot plugin for it. I also have 2 eterms open, gaim open, and a shaded Mozilla . XMMS is open with the Chaos skin. It doesn't match, but hey, it looks neat-o. Background from deviantart.com.

I must add though that KDE or Gnome might replace my desktop soon due to the coming of the great new ram. (I lose my not-enough-ram excuse for not running the full desktop options) :)

Here's mine!
  • # Kahakai 0.2.1 window manager, eazel blue theme
    # Borderless Eterm showing the output of "emerge -U world". (I've got a lot of updating to do )
    # 2 instances of GKrellM: The gold one on top monitors my FreeBSD server, the blue my Linux desktop.
    # wmix
    # idesk, with a lot of preety icons
    # liteamp
    # borderless aterm running my screenshot script
The name of the background is "creation". I think I snagged it from DeviantArt a while ago, but I'm not sure.
Yup, Fluxbox 0.9.4
Nice and stable, supports transparency, rounded edges, seems faster and even more responsive. I definately recommend it.
Wasn't in portage when I emerged it, had to rename the ebuild, but I think it's in now (masked).

ill check when i get home, if you say its stable im going to emerge it then, i didnt like the other devs i found them kinda buggy. btw does this new version include embedded tabs, its the 1 thing i really really love to see in fluxbox *afaik they are going to put it in at some point*

Here's my desktop, I'm trying out Openbox 3, which seems pretty cool so far. They've switched the config. to XML. This is the first theme I completely redid from scratch: got new XMMS skins, wallpaper, gtk(1+2) engines/themes... all that good stuff

I love Openbox 3. I've been using it since alpha1. I want your theme! :)

Here's Gnome 2.3.5.99-r2 with metacity 2.5.3. Metacity uses the MetaXP theme, gtk uses Industrial and the icons are Nuvola. Now, if I only knew how to change the looks of Nautilus, I'd have one sleek desktop, if I do say so myself. :P ;)

the face of fvwm2

Aha! I reckon mine is the first fvwm2 desktop in this thread...

WM: Errr... fvwm2 2.4.16
Widgets: Standard vector buttons, color gradients my own
Background: Corrupted porn2art material :D
Apps: gkrellm2, FvwmPager, FvwmWinList, xmms, gaim, FvwmButtons (swallowing Xdaliclock and Xlassie)... and Firebird.

Good old fvwm, you just can't beat it for configurability - even if it does take about two years to work out how you want it to behave...
